These assault rifles have been used by human forces for decades, before and after the Covenant first attacked humanity. It seems to be the predeccesor to the more commonly known and used [[MA5C]] and [[MA5B]] or may be a generic term for any MA5 series gun.
 
The MA5 Assault Rifle has been in use since before the [[Human-Covenant War]]. It appears to be the predecessor to the MA5B-C series.
