During the Second Battle of New Mombasa, Czernek was most likely a First or Second Lieutenant. He and his unit began to run low on ammo while fighting the Covenant. He continued fighting with the M41 LAAG on the back of an over turned Warthog when John-117 arrived. He is probably the Marine seen on a damaged Warthog several meters from the Hunter from the beginning, since he described himself being in that location when he was interviewed in the Museum of Humanity for a documentary. Czernek lost his right leg during his tour of duty that included the Second Battle of New Mombasa. He now wears what appears to be a metallic prosthetic leg in its place.
