In [[Halo 2]], rank is the numeric representation of a player's multiplayer experience.  Rank can be gained or lost depending on not only the final score of a game, but also on the individual's statistics, and the opposing team's individual ranks.  The system responsible for assigning how many experience points a player is awarded is a very complex algorithm.  A rank is recorded for every [[playlist]] an individual plays in, with the exception of [[Team Training]] and [[Rumble Training]].

Their are leader boards for the majority of the playlists, however [[Bungie]] has indicated that the leader boards may be removed in the near future. Although players will still be ranked so people with appropriate skill levels will be matched in [[matchmaking]].
