In [[2531]], the [[Spartan-II]]s used the ''Circumference'' on a mission to the [[Groombridge 34 System]] to investigate [[Station Delphi]]. It was on this mission that [[Spartan-051]] was "killed" in action.
In [[2531]], ''Circumference'' transported [[SPARTAN-II]]s to investigate [[Station Delphi]] in the [[Groombridge 34 System]]. During the mission [[SPARTAN-051]] was abducted to train the [[SPARTAN-III]s.


It was part of [[Operation: HYPODERMIC]] in [[2552]]. It was likely supposed to infiltrate [[Covenant]] space and find their homeworld. Intrusions into the information net led [[Cortana]] to discover the Circumference, [[Applebee]], and [[Lark]] were not civilian craft, as they were made to seem with their innocuous names.<ref>[[Halo: The Fall of Reach]], page 269</ref> Circumference was docked in [[Reach]] [[Station Gamma]], Bay 9, above planet Reach.<ref>[[Halo: The Fall of Reach]], page 302</ref> An ONI operative, [[Codename: Coalminer|Codename: COALMINER]], detected the discovery. "Coalminer" deleted the Circumference from the Reach database, preventing further intrusion. This intrusion prevented [[Doppler (A.I.)|Doppler, the Reach Space Dock Quartermaster A.I.]] from deleting the Circumference's NAV database when the Covenant attacked the Planet.  Doppler later found the ommission and told Naval command.
By [[2552]], the prowler was part of [[Operation: HYPODERMIC]].


Later that day, Covenant intrusion software discovered the isolation during [[The Battle of Reach]]. They sent three frigates full of [[Ranger]]s to recover the NAV data, but the UNSC responded by ordering [[SPARTAN-117]] and his [[Spartans]] to reach and destroy the data first. He succeeded, and the ''Circumference'' was destroyed by concentrated fire from a [[Pelican]] the Spartan commandeered.

This isolation meant that the Station Gamma Dockmaster AI [[Doppler]] was unable to implement the [[Cole Protocol]] on the ''Circumference''.
 
This oversight was detected by Covenant intrusion software, and the Covenant dispatched three frigates of [[Ranger]]s to recover the prowlers NAV database.  Three SPARTAN-IIs ([[SPARTAN-117]], [[SPARTAN-058]], and [[Spartan-James]]) were diverted from defending Reach's [[Orbital Defense Generator]]s to prevent this. The Spartans were successful, using the weapons of a commandeered [[Pelican]] to destroy the ''Circumference'' and the NAV database.

The UNSC Circumference was a United Nations Space Command Office of Naval Intelligence prowler.

In 2531, Circumference transported SPARTAN-IIs to investigate Station Delphi in the Groombridge 34 System. During the mission SPARTAN-051 was abducted to train the [[SPARTAN-III]s.

By 2552, the prowler was part of Operation: HYPODERMIC.

Prior to, and during, the Battle of Reach, Circumference was docked at Reach Station Gamma, Bay 9. In an effort to maintain the secrecy of HYPODERMIC, the prowler was removed from Reach's database after an intrusion into the ONI database by the AI Cortana. This isolation meant that the Station Gamma Dockmaster AI Doppler was unable to implement the Cole Protocol on the Circumference.

This oversight was detected by Covenant intrusion software, and the Covenant dispatched three frigates of Rangers to recover the prowlers NAV database. Three SPARTAN-IIs (SPARTAN-117, SPARTAN-058, and Spartan-James) were diverted from defending Reach's Orbital Defense Generators to prevent this. The Spartans were successful, using the weapons of a commandeered Pelican to destroy the Circumference and the NAV database.
