By using a crate of [[Plasma Grenades]], he was able to hold off the [[Covenant]] troops with his forces at the main evac complex long enough for the evacuation ships to leave and get into orbit. As a result he contracted [[Boren's Syndrome]] which saved his life on [[Alpha Halo]]. He was extracted with severe injuries along with his men, but lived.
