The MA5K is a cut-down variant of the standard [[MA5B Assault Rifle]]. The weapon is most likely lighter and easier to carry than larger assault weapons, and so it is possibly appropriate, to call it a carbine. Aesthetically, it is like a cross between an [[MA5B|MA5B ICWS Assault Rifle]] and a [[BR55 Battle Rifle|BR55 Rifle]], although the MA5K functions more like an Assault Rifle. It features a stripped-down design that appears almost skeletal. Like the MA5B, the under barrel grip can house either a flashlight, or small grenade launcher.

Based on current-era tactical philosophy, it is believed that the MA5K variant, was produced specifically for Special Operations forces because of its lighter frame, which allowed for more quick maneuvering and less visible profile, and probably for its lighter aural signature, which suits the requirements of commando missions well. This would make it perfect for [[ODST|Marine Shock Troop]]s and vehicle crews as well, since it would not take up much room inside the vehicle.

The MA5K carbine is a firearm used almost exclusively by United Nations Space Command special operations forces, notably the Spartan-III supersoldiers. It is part of Misriah Armory's MA5 series.[1]

Overview

The MA5K is a cut-down version of the standard MA5B assault rifle.[2] It is fully automatic and receives a thirty-round magazine of 7.62×51mm FMJ-AP ammunition.[1] The most conspicuous difference between the MA5K and other MA5 models is the replacement of the distinctive electronics housing with a removable carrying handle similar to that of the BR55 battle rifle. The handle probably integrates a digital ammunition counter like the BR55 and other MA5 models.

Operational History

MA5Ks were used by the SPARTAN-IIIs from 2531 to 2552, especially during the Onyx Conflict.[2]

MA5Ks were used in the Battle for Zeta Halo in 2560.
