Corporal Harland is a veteran marine who assumed tactical command during the [[Battle of Sigma Octanus IV]] after his commanding officers were wiped out. Harland and three members of his squad, Private [[Fincher]], Private [[Cochran]], and Private [[Walker]] encountered Covenant Hunters, and narrowly won a retreating fight against two Banshees. After returning to the primary headquarters in the city Cote d'Azur, Harland calls for reinforcements, not expecting the SPARTANs.


A Corporal in the [[UNSC]] [[Marine]]s, present at the battle of [[Sigma Octanus IV]], he assumed tactical command on the ground when all but a handful of veteran marines were killed by [[Covenant]] forces. Harland and his team were on a scouting mission when all but himself and three other marines ([[Private Cochran]], [[Private Fincher]], and [[Private Walker]]) were killed by the fuel rod gun of a [[Hunter]]. The four fell back to their HQ which were destroyed by covenant. Finally, Harland and his marines were relieved by [[Spartan]] forces who landed to destroy the covenant.
Harland was then debriefed at Reach, and at one point asked the Master Chief if he could join the SPARTANs, but couldn't get a straight answer from him. After the debrief, Harland's fate is unknown since he had a grim look on his face shortly after.


He was later debriefed at [[Reach]] with the [[Master Chief]].
There are five possible fates for Harland


His fate ultimately is unknown, leaving only five possibilities:
1. Harland gets discharged from the UNSC and returns to Earth


1. He died when the covenant glassed most of Reach,
2. Harland dies on Reach


2. He was honorably discharged and sent back to Earth.
3. Harland is on security detail with the S-III project


3. He was re-assigned back to Earth.
4. Harland gets re-assigned to Earth


4. Harland was re-assigned to another planet and perished
5. Harland survives Reach, but perishes elsewhere.
 
5. Harland is on security detail with the S-IIIs.
