Nishum are intestinal parasites native to Sanghelios. Sangheili warriors use the term as an insult towards humans. This usage originated from some of the earliest encounters between humans and Sangheili, with the humans' comparatively small size and vulnerability causing the Sangheili to liken them to nishum. This was in contrast to some Sangheili originally assuming humans to be arthropods with natural exoskeletons as a result of having only encountered human soldiers in full body armor.[1]
