The Dusk was a UNSC prowler in the 2550's.[1] Unlike many prowlers in service, the Dusk was manned and operated by regular naval personnel, instead of ONI. It had seen eighteen months straight of constant action up to and including the fight for Earth.[2]

It was in orbit over Earth during The First Battle of Earth in 2552. Normally it had a crew of 90, but was caught between rotations, and had to be operated by only 186.[3] The ship was one of only four ships fast enough to follow the UNSC In Amber Clad as it pursued the Assault Carrier of the Prophet of Regret to Installation 05.[4] They, along with the frigates UNSC Paris, UNSC Redoubtable, and the corvette Coral Sea were far slower than the In Amber Clad as they were not able to catch the slipspace wake caused by the carrier. By the time they arrived at Installation 05, the In Amber Clad was already destroyed, and the Civil War of the Covenant had begun. They watched for a long time as the Second Fleet of Homogenous Clarity destroyed itself, before returning to Earth via slipspace.[5]

They were caught in The Second Battle of Earth and quickly assigned to respond to Onyx and its distress call from Dr. Catherine Halsey. The prowler was to provide surveillance for the battle group of the UNSC Stalingrad, and surveyed part of the planet for them.[6] Unfortunately, extremely bad luck (the covenant fleet (2 ships at the end) was reinforced by 30+ ships) led the UNSC to lose The Battle of Onyx.[7] The Dusk floated in the Zeta Doradus System for a long time before Onyx exploded into Shield World and destroyed all nearby Covenant ships, allowing the Dusk to escape back to Earth.[8]

It carried several ordinance configurations, such as BLACK WIDOW COMSats[9] and HORNET Mines.[10]
