The Assembler is a type of Strato-Sentinel employed by the Forerunners.[3] Like the similarly-named Constructors, Assemblers are used to build Forerunner installations and their components.[2]
Overview
Assembler Sentinels are predominantly designed, and employed, for the construction, maintenance, fabrication, transportation and reconditioning of large superstructures.[2][4] They typically work alongside Retriever Sentinels, utilising the resources harvested by the Retrievers for the construction of large structures such as Halo rings.[1] Assemblers may also be utilised to conduct finishing work on structures emerging from large construction looms.[2]
Though they are not designed for combat, they will suspend their primary duties to engage Flood forms in the event of an outbreak.[5]
Operational history
During the Forerunner-Flood war, Assemblers were sometimes used in an offensive role against the Flood, using their gravitic grapplers against the parasite in a limited offensive capacity.[2] Toward the war's end, Assemblers were used to construct the Portal at Voi on Earth.[6]
The Foundry of Installation 00 is populated by numerous Assemblers, as well as Retrievers. While the Retrievers extract resources and minerals from the small moon held there, the Assemblers used the materials to build components of the Halo Array and to repair the Ark, if required.[1][7] Assemblers were used alongside Extractor Sentinels to construct Installation 08[8][9]
