In Halo: Reach the achievement is unlocked by completing the Campaign mission Exodus on Normal, Heroic or Legendary.[1]

- The achievement's name is a reference to a quote by Terrence Hood during his speech at the Voi Memorial; "But let us never forget those who journeyed into the howling dark and did not return."[2]
