Template:Not Canon

How about this for a Halo 2 creature you've never heard of before: a Drinol Beast, a sort of hairless, gray monster with one eye - although there are other drawings of it with two eyes so you can't take for granted that it's going to make the final game.

A Drinol render.

The Drinol is a Covenant species that was cut from both Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2.

In the Behind the Scenes featurette from the DVD included with the Halo 2 Collector's Edition, Drinol are described as huge beasts that are kept contained and segregated from other Covenant forces. Possessing phenomenal strength, they are often used to smash enemy vehicles. The August 2011 "O Brave New World" ViDoc revealed gameplay from Halo: Combat Evolved's third-person shooter phase, which showed the character that would become the Master Chief fighting one such creature.

Marathon connection

Bungie enjoyed making references to their previous game franchise, Marathon, in the Halo series.

From a description of the Hulk in Marathon:

The Hulk is an enormous and rather slow creature, but it is incredibly strong. The science report indicated that it had no body fat, and therefore had to be fed often to keep it active. One crew member reported seeing one of these creatures pointing to it and mumbling "Drinniol" right before it "picked Johnny up by the shirt and crushed him against a pillar".

The term "Drinniol" is very similar to "Drinol," indicating a reference. Initially, though, it was called the "Sharquoi".[1] While the Drinol has been cut out of the Halo universe, its brief mention in Conversations from the Universe indicates it may still exist in-canon as the Sharquoi.
