- Spark: "I believe the portal on Zeta Halo was issued from a personal slipspace unit, a device that follows similar principles as those used in translocation technologies and those used in remotely sending a Halo through slipspace, for instance. The device itself can exist in one location, on either the departure or destination side. The anomalous placement of such a device was most likely done without authorization; personal slipspace units were forbidden to use except by special license from the Forerunner Council."
- Lessa: "Why forbidden?"
- Spark: "Imagine billions of souls regularly using personal transports across four million worlds. The immense buildup of reconciliation would have made it impossible and highly dangerous for any other space travel to occur."
- — 343 Guilty Spark and Lessa discuss the device[1]
A personal slipspace unit was a Forerunner device used to generate slipspace portals to allow the user easy travel around the galaxy.
Design and operationEdit
Personal slipspace units generated slipspace portals that could transport the user between worlds quickly. Forerunners utilized their personal armor to protect themselves from the danger of slipspace travel through such a portal. 343 Guilty Spark believed that a confinement bubble could be used to shield an otherwise unprotected human so that they would survive the journey. The device itself could exist on either the departure or destination side.[1]
The effect of billions of souls regularly using personal transports to travel between the four million worlds of the ecumene would create such an immense buildup of reconciliation that it would make it impossible and highly dangerous for any other space travel to occur.[1]
HistoryEdit
Because of the dangers of reconciliation with too much use of the device, personal slipspace units were forbidden to the Forerunners except with special license from the Ecumene Council.[1]
The Librarian illegally placed one such device on Erebus VII connected to Installation 07's Cartographer. In August 2558, when Rion Forge and 343 Guilty Spark used the Librarian's coordinate key on the Cartographer,[2] the Precept sensed that Rion was a Reclaimer and opened the portal to bring her to Erebus VII to test her worthiness to be given access to Bastion.[3] Rion was pulled into the portal, but Spark was able to take the coordinate key from her[2] so that he could continue to follow her trail, believing that the portal had taken Rion to New Carthage where the key had pointed. Spark explained the personal slipspace unit to the Ace of Spades crew and his belief that a confinement bubble had most likely been used to protect Rion during the transit.[4][1]
