List of Halo 4 commendations

The emblem for Halo 4 commendations used in-game and on Halo Waypoint.

There were 121 commendations in Halo 4 prior to their discontinuation with the shutdown of Xbox 360 Halo online services on January 13, 2022. Following that date, players can still view their commendation progress, but cannot progress them.

These commendations were primarily advanced through playing War Games and Spartan Ops; only nine commendations could be completed in the campaign. Commendations are organized into five categories: Weapons, Enemies, Vehicles, Player, and Game Types.

There are seven tiers of commendations: Novice, Qualified, Proficient, Adept, Expert, Distinguished, and Master. Not all commendations utilize all seven tiers- the majority contain only five.

Unlike Halo: Reach, Halo 4 commendations could be advanced while playing on Easy.

Levels

Upon completing a tier, players were awarded bonus XP. The amount of XP varied from tier to tier and commendation to commendation, ranging from 250-10000XP.

1. Novice: rewards average 250XP
2. Qualified: rewards average 500XP (not included if there are fewer than 7 tiers)
3. Proficient: rewards average 500-750XP
4. Adept: rewards average 750-1000XP
5. Expert: rewards average 1000-2500XP
6. Distinguished: 2500-5000XP (not included if there are fewer than 6 tiers)
7. Master: 2000-10000XP
