Fernando Esparza is a civilian contractor who was stationed aboard the UNSC Infinity when it arrived at Installation 07 in late 2559. After hearing of John-117's defeat at the hands of Atriox, Esparza stole Pelican Echo 216 to escape the besieged vessel, only to end up stranded in space. Six months later, having found John-117 adrift among the debris of the initial battle, Esparza reluctantly assisted the Spartan as he confronted Banished forces across the ring. The two bonded over their mistakes, and Esparza ultimately came to terms with his desertion of the UNSC, learning to work as a team with John-117 and the Weapon.
