The Gloto'kas-pattern Assault Carapace[1] (UNSC Type classification: Type-54 Mass Deployment Carapace, T-54 MDC)[2] is a type of large multiple-occupant orbital entry vehicle used by the Covenant remnants, namely Jul 'Mdama's faction.[1][2]

OverviewEdit

Design detailsEdit

Developed by Lodam Armory, the Gloto'kas is a part of the "Gloto" family of drop pods including the single-occupant Gloto-pattern Breaching Carapace and smaller, multi-occupant Gloto'kef-pattern Assault Carapace. Unlike the Gloto'kef (and most other drop pods in Covenant use), the Gloto'kas has the unique distinction of being completely reusable, being capable of deploying numerous troops from low altitude before flying back into the host vessel to receive more passengers. This feature was originally implemented to avoid the costs incurred by single-use drop pods, but has since proven to be a highly practical means of transit.[2] In this manner, it bears some resemblance to a dropship.

The Gloto'kas is equipped with capital ship-grade nanolaminate armor of a faded purple colouration, with an overall aesthetic similar to the other entries in the Gloto family of drop pods. The form factor is streamlined and smooth, with green lights accentuating the purple armour. The top of the pod has a set of affixed sideways-facing mounting arms to secure the vehicle into the host vessel - generally a capital warship. The pod's large size means that it cannot be carried by smaller warships.[2]

Propulsion is provided by impulse drive systems mounted on the sides as well as a set of braking thrusters. The deployed troops are locked into one of several levels of a multi-tiered staging area as the pod descends. Upon landing, the pod generates a low-range gravity dampening pulse to allow the infantry within to safely drop to the ground.[2]

Operational historyEdit

Like the other Gloto drop pods, the Gloto'kas was used to great effect by Jul 'Mdama's revived Covenant during the Battle of Requiem in July 2557 and the following year's Requiem Campaign.[3]
