Biography

During Cortana's Reign, Golly was a part of an ODST force under the command of Spartan Olympia Vale and Gunnery Sergeant "Mama" Grim Bear that was deployed to the world of Netherop abord the Point Blank-class prowler Hidden Point. Their aim was to recover the Divine Hand, a weapon that could be used to destroy Cortana's Guardians. Golly was deployed towards the surface of the planet in a D102 Owl Insertion Craft alongside Vale, Grim Bear, Keely Iyuska, Rosa Fuertes, S. Legowski, and the other 12 ODSTs of Tango Team. During their descent, the Divine Hand was fired by Nizat 'Kvarosee and the Defenders of the Sanctum, destroying the forty Pelican dropships accompanying the Owl and leaving Tango Team the only ones to reach the planet's surface.[1] Upon landing at the summit of the |tel were the weapon had fired, Golly and Legowski scouted ahead on a Mongoose to try to find a route down to the crater so they could infiltrate it. Upon reaching the base of the mountain, they found the ground to be semi-solid and impassible on foot and by vehicle. Golly was forced to pull the Mongoose out of the muck and regrouped with the main force. He then recontoured the tel, eventually helping Vale and Legs unearth a tunnel at the top of the slope. Tango Team was then ambushed by the Defenders of the Sanctum as the Covenant Castaways opened up a tunnel directly below their LZ. Golly helped Vale fight off the defenders, but the two of them were unable to save Legs from being dropped through the floor. Golly would have fallen through the floor himself had Vale not saved him.[2]

After the ambush, Golly rode with Vale on a Mongoose to intercept Arbiter Thel Vadam's as they reached the top of the tel. They were also looking to recover the Divine Hand alongside human castaways led by Commander Amalea Petrov, and the two sides formed a plan to try to dislodge the Defenders of the Sanctum inside.[3] While the Swords of Sanghelios followed Nizat and his forces through the tunnels, Golly and Vale unearthed and broke into a ventilation shaft at the top of the tel. They then repelled down inside of the tel, with Iyuska, Petrov, and First squad following them. [4]Upon reaching the bottom, they reconnoitered the Aeroponics Chamber before pushing deeper into the tel. Golly and Vale pushed ahead into a collection of UNSC wreckage and the remains of a Guardian before being ambushed again by Nizat and his forces. Golly was tasked with keeping Iyuska and Petrov out of harms way, so they retreated to underneath the Guardian's head. They were then attacked by Nizat and Tam 'Lakosee, the last two surviving Defenders of the Sanctum. During the subsequent fight, Golly was badly injured, losing a hand and having his cheek split open. However, he was able to rip one of Nizat's manables off of his face and repel the attack altogether once Spartan Vale and Abovain arrived. He was bandaged up by Petrov and Abovain.[5]

Due to his injuries, Golly did not play a part in the later events of the Netherop conflict, such as the second firing of the Divine Hand and the confrontation with Atriox and the Banished.[6][7] Alongside the rest of the surviving human and Sangheili forces, Golly was evacuated off of Netherop via their Owl dropship to a group of waiting D81-LRT Condor long-range dropships, which jumped them into slipspace.[8]

Characteristics

Golly is extremely tall for an unaugmented human. His exact height is unknown, but he is described as clearly taller than Spartan Vale, making his height somewhere above 205.7 centimeters (6 ft 9.0 in). He is also described as having a deep, rumbling voice. Golly is outfitted with an extremely large set of standard ODST armor and is armed with a MA40 assault rifle and a M90 shotgun.[2]
