Nomination

I, CommanderTony, nominate Specops306 for adminship of Halopedia.
Nominee, please accept or defer the above nomination below this line.

I, Specops306, humbly accept the nomination for adminship, and hope to improve the quality of Halopedia in the months to come!

Reason for Nomination

Specops306 has shown that he can do outstanding and great work for Halopedia and it's members. He has been a tremendous helper to myself, other Administrators, and even fellow Halopedians. Right now, Specops306 is the only member who I trust to become an Administrator, and the only person who fits the requirements to become one. In addition, he is well on his way to become the Halopedian of the Month for April 2008.

As I end this nomination request, I'll leave you a quote from Blemo about Specops306.

"If there was an entry on the Recent Changes page that says, "(2 changes) ARTICLE NAME [A person, other person (2x)]", Specops306 is one of the names of one of the people that edited that page."
— Blemo on the Halopedian of the Month.

He will also do a considerable job fighting vandals coming in and out of Halopedia, and for these attributes he deserves his due. -LS/SL Legatus Skiller

Neutral (0/0 sysop)

Neutral - Alright, yeah, he's got quite a few constructive edits, pretty friendly guy from what I've seen on IRC. Although, right now I think the most needed trait for a new admin now is the abilty to moderate. I haven't seen him that many times, so I don't know how his skills are, so I will remain neutral until I see. =] ChurchReborn 18:16, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

I've removed this, but didn't want to remove the text below.Due to the fact that I was in fact correct, about his previous RfA being denied, I don't think that people should be allowed to keep asking for an RfA every month. If he was denied last time, what makes him get it this time?Bllasae 02:43, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

He withdrew it himself. Read the page much? -- Manticore (talk) 02:50, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
And now he's allowed to make another one?Bllasae
There's a fair chance he would have won if he had not withdrawn. Also, he didn't beg for this, he was nominated because another user thought he should become an admin. Blame the nominator, not the nominee. Tesfan 03:03, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
He did accept it though, didn't he?Bllasae
Yes, but that's not the point. Your point was that he shouldn't re-nom because his past nom just failed, but that's not the case. Tesfan 03:03, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
Personally I think Tesfan got a point, I think that he withdrew himself when he sees that the chance of successfulness is low, but now he got the chance, it isn't a problem to re-nom him. MasterChiefPettyOfficerSpartan Contribution 10:38, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
One, I think you actually meant Bllasae. And Two, I did NOT close my RfA because I thought I might lose. I closed it because I felt that I didn't have enough programming experience to do the job. I reconsidered, and came to the conclusion that the programming aspects are not the most important function of an admin, and that community interaction IS.Specops306, Kora 'Morhek 20:05, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
I agree, the community matters more than your skills, even though the skills help. Being able to provide help and services for the position you are running for is the point of the job, wheter it be as a Usergroup leader or a Halopedia Administrator. EwCDnaudee 20:09, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
"One, I think you actually meant Bllasae.", err, no, I think he meant me. I'm the one defending you =P. User:Tesfan 22:49, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
Sorry, I thought he was disagreeing with you. Specops306, Kora 'Morhek 00:58, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Comments

I respect RR's point of view, but can I just ask this? So many other Admins know how to do the technical code. But that isn't the area that needs attention right now, is it? Mostly its just upkeep of the site as it is, with a few minor alterations. Deleting the flood of spam articles, banning vandals, and guiding the many new users is what takes up most of an Admins time. Am I correct?

And it does not say on the requirements for an RfA that an admin must be intimtely familiar with programming code. Nowhere does it say that. I fit all of the current requirements.

Sorry if this seems like a rant. Yours, ever respectfully; Specops306, Kora 'Morhek 21:10, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

Very true. We need extra admins to police all the new features. The technical side is a secondary concern at the moment. Just my two cents. UoH/Command Staff|General]] UserWiki:Simon_rjh|simon]] rjh 21:16, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
The code around here has been hacked to shit anyway. The only people who understand it properly are the NY guys. We don't need code monkeys, we need people to clean up all the crap. -- Manticore (talk) 06:03, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
Agreed with Manticore. At the moment concern amongst many users on the IRC channel has been the recent flow of spam and junk on the wiki. HaloDude 19:32, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
I also agree, maybe with more dedicated members or more Administrators we can fix the mess that is starting to plague Halopedia. I personally have been making as much use of my Rollback Rights as I can, that is however without hurting the quality of Halopedia itself. EwCDnaudee 19:58, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
Isn't the rollback right only to be use on reverting vandalism? MasterChiefPettyOfficerSpartan Contribution 10:35, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
Most of the time, yes it is. Whats your point? EwCDnaudee 20:11, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
People are abusing it just to revery minor edits, is that what's rollback right for? MasterChiefPettyOfficerSpartan Contribution 10:40, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
Really should only be used for multi-staged edits that you want to mass revert. For single edits, click the undo button. --forgottenlord 19:10, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Dudes I swear man, this admin crap is getting pretty gay, I think only other admins should be able to decide who other admins are going to be because, every time somebody opposes they get into an argument and crap. Dudes, let it go. They want to make a point let them keep it, dont try and convince them that your ideas are right. Everybody chill. Pink Bitch 03:20, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

That's the point of these sections. Pointing out the pro's and con's of a nomination is a vital process - otherwise they would just get scooted over. More gets accomplished and revealed through debate than mere agreement. Specops306, Kora 'Morhek 04:13, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Questions

Nominee, if you accept the nomination, please answer the following questions. It is advised that voters check the nominee's responses before voting.

  1. When did you join Halopedia?
March 9th, 2007, so I've been here for more than a year.
  2. What do you believe are your most valued contributions to Halopedia?
I know enough wiki coding to do the job, and hope to learn more and improve my skills.
  3. What do you believe are your most valued technical contributions to Halopedia?
Define "technical." Is that creating new categories for articles? Or delving into the code?
  4. What do you believe are your most valued contributions to the community?
Trying not to give anyone the wrong idea, and pointing out people's mistakes in a way that (hopefully) is gentle, inoffensive, and clear. I've also welcomed many new users, who have become significant members of the Halopedia community.
  5. What is your expertise with programming languages, if any?
A computer course offered by a nearby university online. Still only the basics for now, but as I improve so shall my skills with Halopedia!
  6. Do you administrate any other Wikia? If so, which?
    No.
  7. If you are administrated, what changes do you propose?
More logos at the top of articles, like the ones we already have pointing out the era, eg; CH, FoR, FS, GoO, etc - perhaps more for which civilization they belong to, such as UNSC, Covenant, Forerunner or Flood, or misc if its ambitous, just for clarity, on the left rather than the right.
  8. To the best of your understanding, what does administratorship entail?
Ensuring that Halopedia doesn't degenerate into a hive of scum and villainy. Deleting articles that are duplicates, spam or just vandalism, banning users who want to ruin the experience for others, and helping anyone who asks for it (or at least pointing them to someone who can).
  9. To the best of your understanding, when will you be able to check Halopedia after you are administrated, in the event that you are?
Probably as soon as I possibly can.
  10. What communities are you associated with online, Halo and otherwise?
    Pretty much just Halopedia.
  11. What is your familiarity with the Halo universe?
I consider my knowledge of the Halo universe to be one of my most definable attributes. I own all of the novels and the games, and constantly re-read them, enjoying them and picking them apart for info.
  12. What is your familiarity with Wikia and Halopedia policies?
Intimately familiar with most policies and especially Signature policy (thanks Manticore!).
  13. What is your relationship with the Halopedia community and current administration?
Been a member for a while now, and I feel that I know most of the people on the scene. My relationship with CommanderTony has been amiable, and though I haven't had long conversations with Dragonclaws or Manticore, I don't think they hate me.
  14. How may users contact you?
r.pomare@xtra.co.nz But please, no offensive material, because I share it with my family.
