The siege bike is an experimental all-terrain, single-traction treaded vehicle designed by the Office of Naval Intelligence's REAP-X department to target well-fortified enemy strongholds and barricades.[2][3][4]
Overview[edit]
Design details[edit]
The siege bike is piloted by a single operator riding atop the vehicle,[3] but it also features the ability to be remotely controlled by a nonvolitional AI.[4] The siege bike is powered by an engine and built around heavy-grade, single-traction treads that allow the bike to be useable in all terrains and achieve speeds of up to 145 kilometres per hour (90 mph).[3][4] It is known to be highly maneuverable,[2] a feature allowed by the fact that its tread actually consists of five independent treads working side by side. At the front of the bike is a dashboard with GPS functionality and a control yoke used to direct the vehicle's movements. At the rear of the vehicle is a storage compartment.[4]
The siege bike is equipped with several armaments and countermeasures, including a single side-mounted M268 heavy machine gun equipped with spectrum-enhanced visual tracking functionality.[3] A switch on the bike's dashboard swaps the vehicle's primary weapon between the heavy machine gun and a double-ended grapplehook launcher. Using a targeting sensor, the launcher can fire serrated grapplehooks both ahead of and behind the bike, and can even connect two targets via the cable if both ends are fired. The grapplehooks are fired with assistance from a target sensor with lock-on functionality. The bike's control yoke includes a lever that, when pulled, releases a pair of mines from the rear of the bike. Intended to be used against pursuers, these mines are in the form of metallic plates which explode into pillars of fires when contacted.[4]
Development[edit]
The siege bike is one of several experimental vehicles developed by the Office of Naval Intelligence's Reverse Engineering and Prototyping–Xenotechnology department,[2] a subdivision of the agency that focuses on the research, analysis, and reapplication of alien technology.[5] The vehicle's impressive weight-responsive maneuverability is a product of reverse-engineered gravitic modules discovered in a Covenant ship debris field.[2]
Usage[edit]
Still in the experimental phase of production, the siege bike is explicitly designed to soften enemy fortifications and create breaches that can then be exploited by other groundside forces.[2] One siege bike was under James Solomon's possession, who use it on Cascade to escape with Chloe Hall.[6]
