The Gloto'kef-pattern Assault Carapace[1] (UNSC Type classification: Type-53 Squad Breaching Carapace, T-53 SBC)[2] is a type of multi-occupant orbital entry vehicle used by the Covenant and its remnants, namely Jul 'Mdama's faction.[1][2]

Overview[edit]

Design details[edit]

The Gloto'kef-pattern Assault Carapace is one of three known drop pods in the "Gloto" family of design patterns predominantly used by Jul 'Mdama's Hesduron forces - alongside the smaller, single-occupant Gloto-pattern Breaching Carapace and the larger, reusable Gloto'kas-pattern Assault Carapace. The Gloto'kef bears heavy visual resemblance to these designs, with a pale purple nanolaminate hull and green-tinted lights adorning the surface.[3]

The carapace's form is streamlined and aggressive, featuring four bulbous pods on each side of the vehicle - providing a "teardrop" profile while in flight. The bottom of the drop pod features a large spike which is embedded in the ground upon impact, ensuring the vehicle's stability. Once landed, the four doors open by sliding up, opening up the internal bay and allowing for entry/exit. The internal bay can carry up to four infantry, similar to the Yado'kef-pattern Assault Carapace (of which the 'kef naming suffix is shared) and Kalu'qeh-pattern Breaching Carapace - though unlike the Yado'kef features no form of energy shielding to protect the occupants.[3]

The pod is equipped with four downward-facing maneuver drives between the doors, designed to activate when close to landing to provide deceleration.[3]

Development history[edit]

The Gloto'kef-pattern Assault Carapace was developed by Lodam Armory.[1]

Usage[edit]

Gloto'kef drop pods were used by the Covenant. During the 2552 attack on Meridian, the Fleet of Sacred Consecration used Gloto'kefs to deploy troops onto Meridian, where they eventually discovered the location of Earth.[4]

During the opening stages of the Battle of Requiem in July 2557, Jul 'Mdama's Covenant used Gloto'kef drop pods (alongside standard Gloto individual pods) to deploy troops into the Core of Requiem. These pods were deployed from a Zanar-pattern light cruiser which was hovering a close distance over the drop site.[5] During the later Requiem Campaign, a Gloto'kef was used by Fireteam Shadow to escape the Zanar-pattern cruiser Panom's Canticle, after the team's mission to board the ship and kill its shipmaster, Ryn 'Alun.[6]
