Illusion is a symmetrical multiplayer arena map coming to Halo Infinite with Content Update 29.[2]
Universe and lore
Illusion is set within the Office of Naval Intelligence's Ilex Facility where experiments on Covenant active camouflage and overshield technologies were once conducted. This research resulted in the creation of the Multifunctional Emitter Prototype, a room-size device which projects an energy field capable of applying the effects of either active camouflage or overshield to personnel within the room. The facility has since been abandoned and the overshield functionality of the emitter has stopped functioning.[1][2]
Overview
Layout
Illusion is a symmetrical maps with a high degree of verticality. The map features three primary routes, with the central corridor featuring a gimmick where an energy field within the corridor projects active camouflage, giving any players within the corridor the effects of active camouflage. The exterior corridors feature man cannons to launch players to the opposite corridors.[1][2]
Callouts
The following are locations on the map that are so named on the player's heads-up display during gameplay:
- This section needs expansion. You can help Halopedia by expanding it.
Production notes
- Illusion was created with the intent to pay homage to Halo: Combat Evolved's multiplayer maps.[1]
- The map has a more brutalist and eerie mood than most UNSC-themed maps. Its large amount of verticality harkens back to Combat Evolved maps like Prisoner, Hang 'Em High, Damnation, and Chill Out, while the map's unique gameplay gimmick calls to mind maps like Chiron TL-34.[1]
- The classic pyramidal and cubic active camouflage and overshield power-ups seen in Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2 can be seen undergoing testing on the map.[1]
- Illusion was originally designed with Capture the Flag in mind.[1]
- The map is set directly below Cliffhanger, another map in Halo Infinite. This is made evident by several screens found across the map being labeled "Ilex Facility," which is the setting for Cliffhanger.[1]
