The C712 Longsword (hull code: SS) is a variant of the GA-TL1 Longsword.[1][2]
Overview
Design details
The C712 is faster and smaller compared to the C709 Longsword.[1] It specializes in short-range atmospheric/exoatmospheric strike runs.[2]
Armament
The C712 Longsword is a multirole space fighter, and its weapons loadout can be easily modified for different mission requirements. It has eight M9109 coilguns that fire 50mm rounds at enemy fighters and ground forces during tactical strikes.[2] There are four ASGM-10 missiles, which are specialized for use against single targets such as the Covenant Seraph, although they are powerful enough to deal significant damage to targets not protected by energy shields.[5] These are typically housed in a rotary launcher within the internal ordnance bay, to protect the missiles prior to launch. If needed, it can replace its anti-ship missiles with conventional smart bombs, satellites, or special mission payloads.[1]

Operational history
During the Fall of Reach, two Longswords were launched against a Covenant Ceudar-pattern heavy corvette to protect SWORD Base. The Longswords pushed the corvette away from the base far enough for a Super MAC round fired from orbit to take it out.[6] Longswords also participated in the Battle at Szurdok Ridge after SPARTAN-B312 took out two Covenant Cheru-pattern Tyrant anti-aircraft emplacements, clearing the way for air support. The Longswords were able to destroy three Deutoros-pattern Scarabs, opening the path for the UNSC's ground assault force.[7]
During the opening stages of the Battle for Earth, a pair of longswords bombed the unshielded Syfon-pattern assault carrier Day of Jubilation, exposing its pinch fusion reactor and allowing John-117 to fly in and detonate a recently acquired Chershi-pattern antimatter charge inside the carrier.[8] Numerous longswords participated in the Battle of Voi as escorts for Battle Group Victory in their attack on Anodyne Spirit, with at least one shot down by a Skar'wa-pattern Mantis.[9] During the Battle of Installation 00, one damaged longsword crashed into the surface of the Ark.[10]
