The Legion of the Corpse-Moon are a Jiralhanae-led clan under the leadership of Chieftain Deukalion, presumably hailing from Doisac's "corpse-moon" of Soirapt. While the clan serves as a legion within the Banished, Deukalion holds the rank of Legionmaster. The Legion of the Corpse-Moon are known to be raiders.[1]
History
At some point prior to July 2559, the Legion of the Corpse-Moon were absorbed into the Banished.[2] After War Chief Escharum received a message from Atriox ordering him to find a fabled Forerunner portal on Reach so that he could return to the galaxy from Installation 00, the Legion of the Corpse-Moon were sent to the glassed human colony, alongside the Keepers of the One Freedom and the Ravaged Tusks, to search for the "Portal under the Mountain."[2]
Upon reaching the colony, the clans were each sent to search a third of the world—with the Legion of the Corpse-Moon being assigned to search the southeastern third of the Eposz supercontinent—but they had little luck in finding the portal. Deukalion and his forces began to squabble with Chieftain Ballas of the Ravaged Tusks over the resources found within the various human rehabilitation settlements.[2] However, Dokab Castor, who led the Keepers, was able to reason with the two chieftains and convince them to continue their search for the portal. The UNSC had sent a team of Spartans to Reach on a mission to recover assets from the ruins of CASTLE Base, but Castor felt sure that they were searching for the portal as well.[1]
As part of Castor's plan to follow the Spartans, forces from the Legion of the Corpse-Moon and the Ravaged Tusks would continue to harass them. Deukalion's forces would also participate in the failed defense and recapture of New Mohács, a settlement constructed by the Viery Militia.[3] Ironically, the Spartans did end up leading the three clans to the portal, as CASTLE Base sat atop the buried Forerunner facility.[4]
Forces from the Legion of the Corpse-Moon were amongst the Banished fighting during the Installation 07 conflict.[5]
Military assets
The Legion of the Corpse-Moon makes use of various Banished vehicles and weaponry, such as Marauders, Wraiths, Banshees, Phantoms, Seraphs, Type-2 gravity hammers, pulse carbines, and Type-25 Spikers.[1] Though Banished humans were never permitted to fight in their forces,[6] species such as Unggoy and Kig-Yar serve within their ranks under Jiralhanae leaders,[7] as well as Banished Sangheili from other Sangheili mercenary clans.[8]
