The UNSC Rubicon was a UNSC Navy vessel, employed by the Office of Naval Intelligence on a classified mission to Installation 00.
History
After ONI operatives was pinged by a Forerunner signal after arriving at the ruins of Installation 00, the Rubicon was deployed to the area through unknown means. The ship's remote contact teams braved extremely hostile conditions on the surface in search of the signal's origin. Contact was lost with all teams after eight days; only RCT-06 returned with heavy casualties. However, they succeeded at recovering the beacon's source - the remains of 343 Guilty Spark himself.[1]
The science team questioned the damaged monitor on his origins, who obliged the humans due to their authority as Reclaimers. Over the course of the interrogation, Spark breached the Rubicon's firewall several times, much to the team's dismay. Spark powered down after concluding his story, and was ejected from the ship; unknownbest to the crew, he has already injected his data stream into the ship's computer. After subduing the shipboard AI and taking control of the ship, he explained to the crew that he desires to resume his quest to find the Librarian and retrieve the spirits of his old friends, Riser and Vinnevra. Asserting that the Librarian is actually alive, he puts the crew to sleep and has the Rubicon proceed to her location.[2]
Search-and-rescue teams was sent to the area after all contact with the Rubicon was lost, but they failed to find any trace of the ship.
