Catalyst is a multiplayer map that debuted in Halo Infinite during Season 02: Lone Wolves.[1]

Universe and lore

Catalyst is set within a cliffside Forerunner structure on an unknown planet. Aggressor Sentinels can be seen flying through the lower portions of the structure which is in the process of being reclaimed by nature.[2] At some point following his induction into the SPARTAN-IV program in 2553, Hieu Dinh was sent on a mission to this structure.[3] Not long before this, the structure had been taken over by a fledgling Yanme'e hive. The raid on the hive ended in disaster with Dinh being the only member of his team to survive.[4][5]

Overview

Layout

Catalyst is a bisymmetrical Arena map set almost entirely within a structure. It features large pits that endanger players with deadly falls. The two teams' bases are relatively small and separated from the center of the map by compact hallways, which contrasts with the central area's long sightlines and high degree of verticality.[2]

The following are locations on the map that are so named on the player's heads-up display during gameplay:

Production Notes

Catalyst was created with the intention of expanding the number of Capture the Flag maps available in Halo Infinite, though it was also the first map that Land Grab was implemented and tested on. The Halo 3 multiplayer map Epitaph was cited as the primary inspiration for this map's architectural style.[6]
