A queen is the matriarchal leader of a Yanme'e hive. Little is known about them, besides the fact that they are extremely large, with elongated abdomens, requiring the support of subservient males carrying them on cushioned litter for transport.[1] The queens are at the top of the species' linear power structure and lead over all other Yanme'e,[2] and all other Yanme'e were subjected to the will of the queen. When the Yanme'e first contacted the Covenant, a bloody war began. However, after an assembly was formed among the queens, they decided to allow lower-caste Yanme'e to be employed by the Covenant.[3] A Yanme'e queen attended the Ascension ceremony of the High Prophets of Truth, Regret, and Mercy.[1]
It could be assumed that Yanme'e Queens lead their hive, giving birth to new Yanme'e and soldiers for its maintenance and defense. They presumably either reside on the Yanme'e homeworld, Palamok or on High Charity. Due to the huge numbers of Yanme'e in the Covenant it would seem that there would need to be more than one queen filling the reproductive role.
