HAZMAT (short for Hazardous Materials) is a branch of the UNSC Navy that cleans up potentially dangerous spills and handles material that is not safe for other personnel to handle. They clean up things like broken and leaking Shaw-Fujikawa Slipspace Drives[1].
When they do not remove these problems directly, they may tag the hazard with HAZNAV satellites to warn other ships from straying too close to it[2].
