There are actual Easter eggs in multiplayer desert of Sandtrap and Sandbox. They are located near each of the pillar near the top right and on Sandbox, they are located inside the pillars. The eggs themselves are textured using a UV Mapping Reference texture (used to help artists paint textures on objects).
The Easter Eggs in Sandtrap are literal Easter Eggs that appear in Halo 3<nowiki/>'s multiplayer maps Sandtrap and Sandbox. The eggs are located near or inside large, tower-like Forerunner structures, and in both levels serve to keep the player from exiting the level.

For a closer look, you'll need to overload the boundaries using Trip Mines which will allow you to go through, but the Eggs are high up. You will need to go into theater mode and speed up to the part where you overloaded the boundaries. With the boundaries no longer in place you will be able to push a free camera through and go upwards to see the Eggs. It is also possible to look at the UNSC Aegis Fate using this method, and you can only get into the partially built hangar.
In Sandtrap, the Eggs fire orange beams into the sand whenever a player tries to exit the map; these beams activate Brute Mines that are buried along the level's perimeter. In Sandbox, the Eggs fire subtler but more powerful beams directly at escaping players, killing such players almost instantly. In both cases, the Eggs' kills are attributed to The Guardians.

To see the eggs on Sandbox, you'll need to get out of the map from the Sky Bubble by spawning a teleporter outside of the map. Fly to a tower (some towers have death barriers) and spawn a turret against the light in the tower. Have one person get on the turret and the other person pick them up. Drag them up the wall while they are still against it. Towards the middle of the light, the Easter Egg should be there. Blocking these eggs will result in their beams not being able to reach people that attempt to leave the map, therefore eliminating the threat of the guardians entirely.
To get a closer look at the Eggs in Sandtrap, you'll need to overload the boundaries using Trip Mines, and then walk outside of the map. From there, you must use Theater to fast forward to where you exited the map, detach the camera, and fly up to the upper portions of the towers, where the Eggs can be seen. It is also possible to look at the UNSC Aegis Fate using this method; the camera can be moved into its hangar.

These eggs have been confirmed to be the guardians on both maps. On Sandtrap, whenever a player enters the mine field, these eggs, located at the watchtowers, will fire a faint sentinel beam into the minefield which supposedly triggers the mines that kill you. These beams are supposed to be harmless to the player. A similar system appears on the map Sandbox. The only difference is that the beams are actually meant to kill you and the beams on Sandbox are also much easier to see than the ones on Sandtrap. Also, the beams on Sandbox can actually be blocked by an object including Bubble Shields.
To see the eggs on Sandbox, two players must cooperate. One player (Person A) must, while in Edit Mode, exit the map from the Sky Bubble by spawning a Teleporter outside of the map. Person A must then fly to a tower (but watch out for kill barriers) and spawn a turret against the light in the tower. A second player (Person B) must then man the turret and have Person A pick the turret up. Person A should drag Person B up the wall while B is still against it. Towards the middle of the light, the Easter Egg can be seen.

Template:Ratings The Easter Eggs in Sandtrap are literal Easter Eggs that appear in Halo 3's multiplayer maps Sandtrap and Sandbox. The eggs are located near or inside large, tower-like Forerunner structures, and in both levels serve to keep the player from exiting the level.

 • The Eggs textures' consist of a grid, with each tile containing a letter of the alphabet. This odd appearance has earned the Eggs the nickname "Da Vinci Eggs".
 • The Sandbox Eggs' beams can be blocked with Forge Objects, rendering the Eggs harmless; Bubble Shields also provide temporary protection.
