The Klavbrig Workshop Deceiver, colloquially known as the Shroud, is an aerial support vehicle from the Covenant's past that has been given new life in service to the Banished.[1][2]
Overview[edit]
Design details[edit]
The Shroud is a beetle-like aircraft[3], with six mechanical legs trailing underneath a rounded carapace. It carries no offensive weaponry, instead relegated to a specialist support role to augment a larger force. The Shroud has two modes; in standard flight, the vehicle is fitted with a point-defense weapon of some kind that can be used to shoot down incoming projectiles that might threaten it or its allies. The vehicle is fitted with a cloaking field generator which can be activated to provide optical camouflage to allies caught within its radius for a limited time. When the cloak is active, the point-defense weapon cannot be used.[1][2]
The Shroud is notoriously difficult to pilot due to its complicated subsystems that are generally unreliable.[2]
Operational history[edit]
Shrouds were used by the Covenant before the hegemony fell apart in 2552.[2] In their Covenant service, they were used to protect Forerunner reliquaries and disguise the advance of Covenant Special Operations troops.[1] After the Covenant's collapse, the Jiralhanae warlord Atriox came into possession of a number of Shrouds. Atriox and the Banished proceeded to tinker with these vehicles even further, making them less reliable than their Covenant-issue counterparts as a price for their utility in the Banished's characteristic raiding attacks.[2] These examples were used in the early days of the Banished to launch his raids on Covenant Warehouses and conceal Banished Raid Camps.[1]
The Banished utilized multiple Shrouds against the crew of the UNSC Spirit of Fire during their battle on Installation 00 in March 2559.[5]
On December 18, 2559, a Shroud was used to cloak a Banished camp on Installation 07 during the ground campaign on the ringworld's surface. On this day, a militia consisting of Lucas Browning, Bonita Stone, Isaiah Cameron, Robin Dimik, TJ Murphy accidentally ventured too close to the outpost, resulting in them being fired upon by the Banished defenders. During the engagement, Spartan Stone was able to hijack the base's Wraith and used it to take out the escorting Ghosts and eventually, the Shroud.[2]
Gameplay[edit]
Halo Wars 2[edit]
Shrouds can be built by all Banished leaders at a Banished Apex. Unlike the other leaders, Let 'Volir is able to have his Shrouds cloaking range increased and longer lasting once the upgrade has been purchased using a leader point. The advantage of having Shroud is it will provide protection against all units by having projectile deflection, but it can only deflect up to 2 projectiles at a time.
Phoenix Logs[edit]
Support vehicle with cloaking field and point defense system. A war machine from the Covenant's past given new life in Banished service, the Shroud is a support air unit with two combat modes. When deployed, the Shroud activates a persistent cloaking field around the vehicle. When not cloaked, the Shroud engages a point defense system that attempts to shoot down incoming enemy projectiles. The Shroud has no offensive capabilities. The Shroud is difficult to pilot, with complicated subsystems made even less reliable by Banished tinkering, but its utility in concealing and defending raiding parties means Atriox spares no expense in maintaining his stock of the vehicles. |
Trivia[edit]
The Shroud is absent from Blitz multiplayer mode, despite appearing in the trailer in the 20-second mark.[6]
