The Gespu-pattern flak launcher (UNSC Type classification: Type-58 Light Anti-Armor Weapon, T-58 LAAW), also known as the fuel rod cannon, is a shoulder-fired mortar used by Covenant remnants, created as the post-Covenant War successor to the Pez'tk-pattern fuel rod gun.[4]
Design details[edit]
Created by multi-species workshops on Venezia, the T-58 fuel rod cannon is cheaper, more accurate, and more reliable than the older Pez'tk-pattern fuel rod gun. The T-58 LAAW uses a compact and refined class of fuel rod ammunition that is far safer to manufacture, store, and field.[1][4]
Variants[edit]
- Light of Urs: During the Blooding Years, many advances were made in fuel rod technology, with the Light of Urs being one of those advances. It is named after the star and the deity in Sangheili mythology. It is an improved fuel rod cannon that features an 80% higher rate of fire and faster-moving fuel rods with a 72% larger blast radius at the expense of slightly reduced damage, contrary to its in-game description mentioning higher damage.[3] It can also lock onto ground and air vehicles.[1] This particular weapon also appears as the first hidden weapon in the mission Genesis.[5]
- Pool of Radiance: Both the Swords of Sanghelios and Jul 'Mdama's Covenant use once-forbidden, unstable weapons. The Pool of Radiance, one of these weapons, is an advanced fuel rod cannon with a 40% slower rate of fire compared to standard fuel rod cannons, but its projectiles are deadlier as they leave dangerous residue upon impact and feature a proximity airbust fuse and a 42% larger blast radius.[1] It can also be found as the second hidden weapon in the campaign mission Reunion.[6]
Gameplay[edit]
Changes from Type-33 fuel rod gun in Halo 2: Anniversary[edit]
- Extensive structural changes; reload now involves a speed-loader style cylinder of ammunition rather than a vertically loaded rack.
- Structure is much more sleek in design.
- The ammo is now loaded from the back rather than from the top. The ammo mag is also changed from a single line to a circular line.
- Firing rate decreased.
- Projectiles now have a longer range before being affected by gravity, after which they explode instantly.
- Weapon trajectory travels slightly faster than its predecessor.
- Uses a holographic scope when using smart scope instead of a full-screen scope.
- This section needs expansion. You can help Halopedia by expanding it.
