Madrigal Monitor
Political and military information

Functionality:

Monitor of the Madrigal portal, caretaker of the Halo

"Madrigal was once very different. Barren and unforgiving. Food was scarce, water even scarcer. Life was a struggle for the first pioneers. Your forefather's forefather was one of them. One night, he left his tribe in search of water. He walked deep into the desert and dug a well. There he discovered the fuel that now sustains the planet. But his reward was so much greater. At the well, he said he met a being... a visitor from another time. Perhaps from another existence. It explained to him his true purpose, his responsibility... which has been handed on to future generations. To your father... and now to you."
Desiderata to Kwan Ha.[1]

343 Guilty Spark is a Monitor that looked after the portal on Madrigal, set the Ha family on their path, and is the caretaker of the Halo.

Biography

At some point in the past, Guilty Spark met the ancestor of the Ha family on Madrigal when he was digging for water and gave the man and his family the charge of protecting its portal. However, the Monitor refused to reveal the secrets of the portal until the planet was safe.[1]

In 2552, while learning about her family's duty through a vision quest, Kwan Ha briefly saw the Monitor speaking to her ancestor before the Monitor dropped back into the well. Kwan's ancestor told her that she would lead John-117 to the portal when it was time while her father explained what the portal was and its purpose.[1]

In a conversation taking place in the depths of the Halo but at an unknown date, Guilty Spark interrogates the Master Chief about something he witnessed, and if he is the one the monitor requires for an unknown task.
