Halo is the eighth and final episode of the second season of Halo: The Television Series, as well as the series finale.

Official Summary[edit]

The climactic battle for the Halo begins. John makes a fateful choice. Soren and Kwan undertake a rescue mission. Halsey and Miranda unleash an ancient horror.[3]

Plot[edit]

The episode begins with Master Chief conversing with an unseen entity in a dark location. Meanwhile, Miranda examines alien spores that begin rapidly dividing, unaware that her lab assistant Janine has been infected, leading to violent outbursts.

As the Battle for Halo starts ramping up, Spartans are deployed against the Covenant Fleet, First Fleet of Solemn Accord, with Kai leading Javelin Team which Perez is a part of. Before they could fallout, Covenant plasma destroys their Condor, killing some and sending others spinning. But they manage get themselves back on track and board a Covenant Corvette. In parallel to that, Chief, on his Condor, keeps observing the battle, hearing all the radio chatters, confused on what to do, as Admiral Parangosky orders him to reach the Halo first.

Chief, after witnessing heavy Spartan casualties, decides to the disobey order and abandons his mission to rescue the surviving Spartans including Kai and Perez. Aboard the Arbiter Var 'Gatanai's ship, Makee breaks Cortana's data chip, but Cortana transfers herself to the ship's systems and is recovered by Chief, who manages to enter the ship with the assistance of Halsey, who sided with the Chief despite Parangosky's orders for her to tell Chief to not go after Cortana. Chief punches the console and absorbs Cortana into his armour before the vessel crashes into Halo's surface. Kai sacrifices herself by piloting the Covenant corvette into the flagship of the Covenant fleet, the Syfon-pattern assault carrier to save the UNSC fleet.

On Onyx, Soren and Kwan rescue Laera, Kessler, and Ackerson from a prison facility overrun by infected personnel, where Kwan encounters the Mother who appears to be the same shaman who died in Sanctuary. She reveals that the parasite is "the Flood" — the final equilibrium of life. Laera stays behind, having been infected. Infection quickly spreads in the command facility, consuming everyone, including Parangosky. Halsey escapes the horror in a split second as Miranda discovers the true nature of the parasite, and also finds out that Halsey has also succumbed to the parasite. She places the infected Halsey in cryo to halt progression.

On Halo, Chief defeats the Arbiter Var 'Gatanai in combat, killing him at his request to restore his honour. Makee activates a Forerunner structure, claiming she too is a "Demon" before entering alone as UNSC fleet make their descent on the Halo while Beacon towers rise from the ground.

The episode concludes with the revelation that the entity Chief has been speaking with is a Monitor, the caretaker of Halo installation, in a mysterious facility under the deepest depths of the installation. Monitor cryptically states that "it," possibly hinting at the Gravemind, has awakened because of Chief's presence, and says he will be watching, before parting ways with the Spartan who prepares for the coming battle, putting on his partially damaged helmet, with blood stains, revealing one eye.
