On October 29, 2558, a new conflict was sparked on the Forerunner shield world Onyx after the joint occupying forces of the United Nations Space Command (UNSC) and the Swords of Sanghelios came under attack by the Servants of the Abiding Truth, only for both sides to be caught by surprise by the appearance of a Guardian and its armiger complement as part of the wider Created takeover across known space.[2] This marked the second major conflict in the Zeta Doradus system after the three-sided Onyx Conflict in the final months of the Human-Covenant War in late 2552.

In October 2558, the Servants of Abiding Truth managed to gain access to Onyx. Once they stepped foot onto the portal sight, it wasn’t long before they swiftly eliminated all nearby humans. [3] Soon after the Servants found a larger site where most of there forces on Hesduros could be transported to to set up and fortify there new encampment at a cathedral.[4] The Servants quickly hatched a plan to steal one the huragoks stationed at one of the Repositories, however this plan would fail, and lead to the Servants being discovered. Pax forces attempted to find them immediately, but couldn't.[5]

The Servants' new plan for invasion would be complicated however, due to the start of the The Reclamation and the rising of a Guardian on Sarcophagus. When the Guardian invaded Onyx, the students at the Pax Institute were brought back inside by Kasha 'Hilot and evacuated to the lunchroom. Due to the conflict, classes ended early, but the teachers decided not to send their students home right away due to the dangers outside. Some students protested and questioned Kasha on why they couldn't be sent home early, despite some of them living near the Institute. Kasha informed them that the school is the safest place for everyone. Some of the students believed they would be safer at home and suggested voting on it. However, Kasha told them her decision was final.[2] As the Marines battled the newly arrived Armigers near the guardian, Spartans stationed on the Shield world fought off both armigers, and the now invading Servants of Abiding Truth. Despite there efforts, the enemy elites still managed to storm the school in an attempt to find the Huragok Prone to Drift, whom they had been chasing through Paxopolis beforehand.[7] The shield world was returned to its slipspace bubble for protection, and Prone to Drift managed to destroy the Guardian.[8] The Servants interrogations and executions at the school would end when they managed to acquire Prone to drift, and take Asum 'Mdama captive in exchange for the lives of everyone else in the school. Even with the arrival of Spartan Tom-B292, Dural And his forces still managed to escape from the school with Asum and the Hurogok, simply due to his hostages giving him the upper hand in negotiations.[9]

The Final Stretch

After escaping, the Servants arrived at the repository with there prisoners to safely make there way through the portal there, however they had been tracked down by Tom and a few of his companions. Tom stepped in front of the portal, and a battle quickly broke out between him and the Servants. However despite his killing several Elites, he was disoriented by a plasma grenade and stabbed through the chest by Dural. The victorious Servants took there prisoners through the reactivated portal, while molly rushed to the still active portal to go check on Tom.[10] After Molly, Kareem, and Gudam decided to chase after The Servants to save Asum and Prone, they would use two beasts they found to help cause enough chaos for Asum to and Prone to escape. Dural would get injured during the insuing cahos, and after being left behind By his fellow Servant Kurnik, Asum attempted to help him, however Dural chose to take on the beasts instead.[11] After a Pelecan dropship arrived and took out the other beast about to kill molly, and the remaining Elites attempting to escape with Prone, they all managed to escape alive aboard the pelican.[12]

Aftermath

However, despite all three factions suffering heavy casualties in the conflict, the Servants were far from defeated. After retuning to the Citadel, Dural fought and killed Kurnik for his betrayal. Despite the significant defeat the Servants had been dealt, Dural intended to rebuild his forces in a Forerunner warship docked on Mackintosh and take the shield world from the humans and the Swords of Sanghelios before using the technology that they recovered there to take the fight back to Sanghelios and take it back from the Arbiter.[13]
