Camber was a human colony planet. During the Human-Covenant War it was attacked and glassed by the Covenant's infamous Fleet of Particular Justice.[2]

Overview

Topography and ecology

Camber has vast blue oceans and large, sprawling continents. One of the largest continents features a massive desert or plains biome, with greener environments closer to the eastern coast. Camber presumably has breathable air and comfortable gravity for humans.[2]

History

The UNSC's system headquarters.

UNSC powerhouse

Camber was a major manufacturing center for UNSC Navy fleet materials. As such, it held critical importance to the UNSC war effort and maintained its own grid of orbital defense platforms, as well as a formidable defensive fleet that included Marathon-class heavy cruisers and Paris-class heavy frigates. In one of the planet's cities, the UNSC had a key system headquarters where the 3rd Battalion Reserves were stationed.[2]

Covenant invasion

Main article: Battle of Camber

By 2542, Camber's location had been discovered by the Covenant, who attacked the planet in that year, destroying a UNSC fleet depot.[3] Seemingly, the UNSC was either able to repel the Covenant following the depot's destruction, or the invaders retreated voluntarily after accomplishing their goal.[Note 1]

In 2546,[3] the Covenant would return in the form of Thel 'Vadamee's Fleet of Particular Justice, with the goal of cleansing the planet of its human inhabitants. 'Vadamee and his fleet caught UNSC forces completely unprepared, penetrating the defensive fleet's early warning perimeter without alerting UNSC forces. After diverting seventeen of his ships to target key ground targets, 'Vadamee himself participated in the attack on the UNSC's headquarters. The battle was over shortly and Camber was glassed, with only 81,313 of the orignal 5.6 million population surviving.[2]

Banished occupation

By 2560, the Banished had stationed forces on Camber and installed a shipbreaking facility.[3] During a mission to Camber, Spartans Hieu Dinh and Sigrid Eklund encountered a Banished artificial intelligence known as Iratus, with Dinh capturing the hostile AI within his armor.[4][3]

Notes

  1. ^ The Halo Encyclopedia (2022 edition) establishes that Camber was glassed in 2546, and Halo 2: Anniversary's terminals make it clear that the battle was over very quickly and the planet was glassed. Meanwhile, in the intro cutscene for Season 02: Lone Wolves of Halo Infinite, Laurette Agryna established that a UNSC fleet depot on Camber was destroyed by the Covenant in 2542. While this might simply be an error, the most likely lore-friendly explanation is that the Covenant attacked in both years, with the second attack being 'Vadamee's quick and decisive victory.
