The Ages of Conflict were time periods in Covenant history where the Covenant suffered from large internal or external conflicts. There were 39 Ages of Conflict in total. During the Progression of the Ages, Ages of Conflict are represented by iron[1] and the following dialogue is as followed for this age:[1]
Leader: "Conflict."
Congregation: "The Second Age! Rivalry and bloodshed!"
History
First Age of Conflict
The First Age of Conflict is the name given to the time of the War of Beginnings, from 938 BCE to 852 BCE. During this time, the Sangheili and the San'Shyuum reformists fought over their different religious beliefs regarding the treatment of Forerunner artifacts. The age ended with the ratification of the Writ of Union, a treaty made between the two races that established the Covenant.[2][3]
Second Age of Conflict
During the Second Age of Conflict, the Sinaris-pattern heavy destroyer was first commissioned for service with the Covenant fleet.[4]
Third Age of Conflict
The Third Age of Conflict was a time of violent civil wars that so often defined the Covenant's early history, as the empire took shape through conquest, submission, and slaughter.[5] This age occurred within the first centuries of the Covenant's existence.[6]
The Varric-pattern heavy cruiser was first commissioned and entered service with the Covenant fleet for use in the civil wars of the Third Age of Conflict.[5]
Fourth Age of Conflict
The Fourth Age of Conflict saw the Wik-pattern light destroyer entering service with the Covenant's fleet.[4]
Sixth Age of Conflict
During the Sixth Age of Conflict, the Zanar-pattern light cruiser entered service with the Covenant's navy, where it was employed for patrol and security across the Covenant's domains.[5]
The Mutun Et-pattern storm cutters first entered service with the Covenant's fleet during the Sixth Age of Conflict.[7]
Thirty-Ninth Age of Conflict
The Thirty-Ninth Age of Conflict was ushered in by the Unggoy Rebellion, which arose from a long list of grievances finally set aflame with the Infusion Incident. This Age of Conflict led to the 23rd Age of Doubt.[8]
