History
In March of 2558, Fireteam Bailey, led by Paul DeMarco,[1] and Fireteam Jackknife were assigned to escort and provide security for Fleet Admiral Terrence Hood and Arbiter Thel 'Vadam on a diplomatic mission to Ealen IV. Fireteam Bailey was ordered to stay back as overwatch for the ships as the others proceeded to the processing center. While Hood and 'Vadam were negotiating with the Jiralhanae Chieftain Lydus, they came under attack by Covenant mercenaries. Despite facing heavy resistance from Covenant forces, Fireteam Bailey managed to clear a path for the delegates and escort them to a nearby parts depot.[2]
As the party attempted to escape the storage depot, Fireteam Bailey and DeMarco were ordered to secure the area and escort the delegation to an old fortified redoubt. Soon after their escape, they were intercepted by a Covenant Lich. After a brief skirmish with the Covenant leading to the destruction of the Lich, Bailey stayed with the delegation as Fireteam Jackknife and the delegation's bodyguards went on ahead to ensure that the redoubt was safe to use as shelter.[3]
Arriving at the redoubt, Palmer ordered DeMarco and the rest of Bailey to sweep the courtyard and provide an inventory of any supplies left behind. As the Covenant ships approached the redoubt, Fireteam Bailey was forced to stay behind in order to secure the lives of the delegates. Manually utilizing anti-aircraft cannons, Bailey succeeded in holding off Vata 'Gajat's forces long enough for the delegates to escape. DeMarco was killed when the Covenant destroyed his cannon while the other members of Fireteam Bailey survived the battle.[4] DeMarco's sacrifice was later commemorated at a memorial service aboard Infinity.[5]
