- Since the beginning of Operation: TREBUCHET a decade ago, over a million civilians have been killed. Most of them are collateral damage due to UNSC overreaction, which furthers civilian support to the rebels to some extent.[1]
- January 3: Gage Yevgenny enlists in the Colonial Military Administration.[2]
- January 18: A telescope on Mars, CFHT-Mars, while recording the Rosette Nebula, captures the first ever human photograph of the Covenant mobile planetoid, High Charity. The discovery is sent to Dr. Catherine Halsey for evaluation.[3]
- February 28: Jun-A266 is born on Tyumen, New Harmony.[4]
- May 22: James Cutter receives a Bronze Star for his actions aboard the UNSC Glasgow.[5]
- June 12 : Kojo "Romeo" Agu is born in the Castra Arcology, Castra, on Madrigal.
- Mid June: Insurrectionists hit the luxury liner National Holiday above Reach, detonating unmanned orbital taxis loaded with explosives against its hull. The ship plummets into Reach's atmosphere, burning up via re-entry. The Office of Naval Intelligence manages to portray it as a tragic accident.[6]
- June 16: Staff Sergeants Nolan Byrne and Avery Johnson lead two four-man teams on a raid in the city of Casbah on Tribute to find rebel bombs.[7] The assault is part of Operation: TREBUCHET.
- August 7: Marcille Johnson passes away.[8]
- August 10: Johnson arrives in Chicago, URNA, after the botched operation on Tribute. He goes to visit his aunt Marcille, only to find that she had passed away three days ago.[8] In grief, he goes on a drinking spree. Eventually, he is found by Lieutenant Downs.[9]
- September 2: The freighter Horn of Plenty emerges from Slipspace in error, courtesy of a radiation leak, and sends out a distress beacon. The beacon is futile, however, as the ship is attacked and captured by a Covenant vessel.[10]
- September 3: Horn of Plenty's navigation box is retrieved by Covenant forces and its contents are analyzed by the Huragok Lighter Than Some. Lighter Than Some finds the vessel's point of origin. The Covenant ship, Minor Transgression, heads off to obtain more spoils.[11]
- September 16: Horn of Plenty's signal reaches Harvest, being received by the artificial intelligence construct Sif.[12]
- November 17: Dr. Catherine Halsey writes in her journal about previously reuniting with Lieutenant Jacob Keyes while attending a conference at the University of Calippus. Their rendezvous has left Halsey pregnant with their daughter, Miranda.[3][note 1]
- December 21: The Template:UNSCship, carrying Staff Sergeant Johnson and many others, arrives in the Epsilon Indi system.[13] Simultaneously, ONI operative Jilan al-Cygni is briefed by the AIs Sif and Mack.[14]
- Late December: The Prophet of Restraint impregnates a female San'Shyuum, despite his defective genes making it illegal for him to reproduce. With the mother refusing an abortion, a scandal starts brewing over the issue.[15]
- Minor Transgression's crew launches a raid on the freighter This End Up, killing its captain, Henry Gibson. A while later, Sif reports the attack to al-Cygni, both realizing that it was the only ship in the area with a human crew.[16]
Unknown
- UNSC forces quell a colonial rebellion on Persia IX.[17]
- Office of the High Prophet of Restraint issues an Edict, following an incident with the Kig-Yar ship Pitiless, that teams of Unggoy and Sangheili are to search all Kig-Yar vessels for evidence of "Unclean Beings".[18]
Notes
- ^ The journal entry is dated November 17, 2524, and Halsey writes as though the events occurred recently. However, Miranda Keyes was born February 28, 2525, which would place the date of their rendezvous in late May or early June 2524. Although Halsey often went months and even years without writing in her journal, there is another entry in August which makes no mention of the incident or her pregnancy. It is therefore possible that the date of the journal entry is anachronistic, and should be dated five months earlier.
