Halopedia:Administrators

An administrator is a user who have access to a few additional features on the site for housekeeping for keeping wikis nice and tidy. They are users who have access to more features than patrollers.

What tools do administrators have?

These functions are solely for housekeeping for keeping Halopedia nice and tidy. The community does look to administrators to perform the essential chores that require the extra access administrators are entrusted with. However, otherwise, administrators are the same as other users, and are expected to be well-tempered in all respects.

• Deleting and undeleting pages, uploaded images and page histories.
• Protecting a page so it can not be edited or moved by anonymous users (autoconfirmed protection) or non-admins (full/sysop protection), in accordance with the policy.
• Blocking IP addresses or user names from editing; and quick reversion ("rollback") of undesirable edits.
• Editing the interface by changing system messages and skins (editing MediaWiki files).
• Viewing a user's IP addresses and other information.
• Marking high quality page revisions as "patrolled" to help with the reverting of poor or bad-faith edits.

What should administrators not do?

Administrators should not use their administrator powers to settle editing disputes; for example, to lock a page on a version they prefer in an editing dispute that isn't vandalism. Administrator powers should be used to help keep the wiki clear of vandalism, spam, and users who make malicious edits, but not for simple disagreements between users acting in good faith. Administrators should not be considered "in charge". The ideal admin is a regular user who is trusted to have a few extra buttons and to use them for the benefit of Halopedia.

How do I become an administrator?

Administrators are usually selected on an as-needed basis only. As Halopedia grows, more administrators may be needed to assist in its operation. New administrators are always selected via a request for adminship.

• Special:Block - block a username, IP address, or IP range
• Special:DeletedContributions - view a user's deleted contributions
• Special:Import - import pages with full history and content from other wikis
• Special:RevisionDelete - Hides individual page revisions in the case of exposure of sensitive information (eg. potentially libelous or personal information as well as copyright violations). Note: See manual here
• Special:Undelete - view and restore deleted content
• Special:UnwatchedPages - view a list of pages not on any users' watchlist
• Special:CheckUser - view IP addresses used by a user, or vice-versa. This tool should only be used in accordance with the policy

  BaconShelf has been into Halo since around 2006, and editing on Halopedia in some form or other since 2015. He primarily deals with images, categories and site maintenance as well as cleaning up older articles.

  CIA391 has been a Halopedian since 2010. He can generally be found doing community projects aiming to make the community a better place.

  CMDR_RileySV (formerly Commander12X) has been a fan of Halo since 2011. He has been a part of the wiki end of things since before Halo 5 launched and joined Halopedia properly after the Halo Nation merge. Primarily focuses on the lore end of things and more specifically locations, factions, and battles/wars.

  Dab1001 has been around on the Halo wiki scene since early 2014, when he first began editing Halo Nation. Eventually, he moved to Halopedia as part of the merger in 2019. He now spends most of his time focusing on the technical side of the wiki, as well as pushing a few mainspace overhaul projects.

  Being a longtime fan of Halo since 2003, "Prov" has been a wiki editor on Halo Nation since 2013 and various other smaller wikis. He joined Halopedia as part of the merger in 2019 and now keeps a watchful eye over a "place" waiting to be forgotten 👁️.

  Jack Phoenix is a MediaWiki developer who has been a Halopedian since 2007 and the primary developer of the social tools used on Halopedia and countless other wikis since 2008.

  A Halopedian since 2009, JackVibe (formerly Spartan331) was made Patroller in 2012 before taking a break from the franchise and wiki between 2015 and 2019. He obsesses over consistent formatting across the wiki, dealing with a variety of lore (mostly weapons) and real world articles (usually soundtracks). He also likes taking screenshots.

  Porplemontage joined Halopedia in 2005 and has been hosting the site since 2010.

  Rusty-112 joined Halopedia in 2009 and was nominated as an admin in 2012. Achievement and medal pages are his pet project.

  Sith Venator joined Halopedia in 2008. List of appearances sections, image categories, and making sure pages have images from all their appearances in visual media are his main focus.

  A member of Halopedia since 2009, Tacitus (formerly Jugus) mainly focuses on lore-related content and is often shamelessly nitpicky about details that, for some reason, tend not to bother most other people.

  "Arby" has been a Halo fan since 2009 and a Halopedian since 2019. He busies himself with various tasks around the site, but his primary project since 2021 has been to document the lore from the most recent novels. He'll finish Silent Storm at some point!
