Mary Cutter was the wife of Captain James Gregory Cutter. In 2531, she and her daughter were living on Reach while Captain Cutter commanded the UNSC Spirit of Fire in the Epsilon Indi system.

In a self-described "fan fiction" short story written during Halo Wars development by writer Graeme Devine, the disappearance of Spirit of Fire resulted in widespread conspiracy theories that the ship and its crew had joined the Insurrectionist movement. The story describes the Mary Cutter assaulted a reporter when asked about this theory, refusing the accept that her husband would turn rebel.[1]
