Many "Forgers" often turn the Landmine upside down using the "Phased" setting, and move it into the ground slightly (so that the top sticks out enough for it to register something driving over it), making an effective trap. Unless custom settings are used, all vehicles will be destroyed if they are within the blast radius of the mine.

This article is about the Forge object introduced in Halo: Reach. For other types of landmines, see Mine.

This landmine is a stationary explosive mine employed by the United Nations Space Command.[1]

Design details[edit]

The landmine is a large circular explosive planted on the ground. It has a circular blinking red light in its center.

Gameplay[edit]

"What’s a landmine? Should be obvious, right? A small, metal platter with a flashing red bulb perched on top like a violent, blood-soaked maraschino cherry on a death-dealing sundae. You’d have to be some kind of moran not to instantly know you need to steer clear."
— Urk.[1]

Halo: Reach[edit]

In Halo: Reach, these landmines may be placed in Forge mode, under the "Gadget" section. They serve as an integral part of the Race gametype.[1] It functions similarly to the Trip Mine equipment from Halo 3. The landmine is able to kill a fully shielded player, unlike the Trip Mine, which only takes out a player's shields.

Unlike the Trip Mine, the landmine is not activated solely by motion. Thus, trying to crouch walk slowly over a landmine will detonate it. Landmines can be activated by proximity. If you drive close enough to one, it will explode after a short delay. This can be used to stop any player following close behind you. Oddly enough, however, Evading over a trip mine will not detonate it, and the mine may even be thrown into the air from the impact.

Halo 4[edit]

The Landmine returns in Halo 4 with no changes whatsoever.

Halo 2: Anniversary[edit]

The Landmine returns in Halo 2: Anniversary multiplayer with no changes whatsoever. The game introduces an EMP variant of the landmine, which has a blue light in its center; its explosion does not damage players, but emits an EMP pulse that disables nearby vehicles and trigger the standard landmine.
