Sára Sorvad is a human civilian who lived on the colony of Reach.[1] She is the daughter of Office of Naval Intelligence scientist Laszlo Sorvad.

Background[edit]

Around 2550, Sára was relocated to the Visegrád Relay along with her father when he began researching a meteorite impact site in Visegrád.[2]

Sára was only one of two survivors of the Covenant infiltration of Visegrád Relay, with the other survivor being an injured UNSC Army trooper.[1] She hid under the staircase while Sangheili Zealots stormed the building and killed her father, and was later found by NOBLE Team. Sára was unwilling to leave her hiding spot, even attacking Jorge-052 as he tried to console her, but barely managed to tell him that "there's more" before the three Zealots appeared and attacked the Spartans.

Once cleared of Covenant presence, Jorge tended to her side and asked her of the incident, helping her identify with him through their Hungarian heritage. After warming up to him, Jorge and NOBLE escorted her out of the facility.[1] After the events of the relay she got to speak with Catherine Halsey about her father.[2]

Personality and traits[edit]

During her brief encounter with NOBLE Team, Sára did not appear to speak English, instead only speaking Hungarian - the language shared by many of Reach's settlers.[1]

Production notes[edit]

In Halo: Reach, Sára was originally intended to have a much larger role in the game than her short cameo in the final release. According to Isaac Hannaford, Sára was originally envisioned to fulfill a role for NOBLE Team similar to that of Cortana in the original Halo trilogy; a tough, smart and more human character to serve as a science advisor and human foil for the more stoic Spartans. Sára would have additionally had a distrust for Doctor Halsey, with the two having a somewhat antagonistic relationship. Hannaford also noted that this plotline was largely cut for time, with some effort instead made to deepen the emotional depth for Jorge and Emile instead - though he also felt that this effort was "cheap" and never quite matched what Sára could have offered to the game.[3]

In the final game, Sára only has a small role in the penultimate cutscene of the level Winter Contingency, in which she is found hiding from the Elite Zealots that have infiltrated the Visegrád Relay.[1] In this brief interaction, she was voiced by Marcella Lentz-Pope.[4]
