::::Yeah, Jack, the full MediaWiki dump wasn't actually complete. Some pages only have one revision from an older dump, which is why edit counts are down. And when a new user logs in from Wikia, aka "registers" here, Special:UpdateEditCounts needs to be run or they'll only have one edit. --<span style="font-variant:small-caps">'''[[User:Porplemontage|Steve]]'''</span> (''[[User talk:Porplemontage|talk]]'') <span class="plainlinks">[https://www.getfirefox.com https://www.halopedia.org/images/firefox_27x15.png]</span> 11:28, 18 October 2010 (EDT)

::::::Sounds like epic hack time...maybe a hook in MediaWikiAuth.php and a hooked function or just plain copypasta from SpecialUpdateEditCounts.php to MediaWikiAuth.php. Either way, the database queries need to be performed in MediaWikiAuth::initUser, probably after updating the user's info in the database (it needs to be done before the extension tells Snoopy to log out from the remote wiki). Doable, yes, but also a bit complicated. --[[User talk:Jack Phoenix|Jack Phoenix]] 06:18, 19 October 2010 (EDT)

===Edit Count===
Similar to the above problem, my received points and edit count seems to widely vary. I had just become a Gunnery Sergeant back on the OLD Halopedia, the move cut me back to Sergeant by about 200 points, but that's understandable because the 2 week gap. But yesterday, I had 14,500 points listed, now it lists me as Sergeant with only 7,500 points. I check and all my contributions are still there, but maybe the amount of points given per edit is being reduced, but even then I should still be JUST about at Gunnery Sergeant, not lower. Anyone else? [[User:Tuckerscreator|<span style="color:#6600cc;">'''''Tuckerscreator'''''</span>]]([[User talk:Tuckerscreator|<font color="#008000">stalk</font>]]) 18:56, 20 October 2010 (EDT)
:The reason for the recent drop is because we just changed the setting to only count main namespace edits instead of all edits. Not all pages have their full histories, which I am slowly importing, so the edit counts will continue to gradually go up. --<span style="font-variant:small-caps">'''[[User:Porplemontage|Steve]]'''</span> (''[[User talk:Porplemontage|talk]]'') <span class="plainlinks">[https://www.getfirefox.com https://www.halopedia.org/images/firefox_27x15.png]</span> 19:07, 20 October 2010 (EDT)
Ah. Does it also change the amount of points received? Since just yesterday I made several additions that were numbering well into the thousands, now a similar sized edit still gives only 50. That also part of it? [[User:Tuckerscreator|<span style="color:#6600cc;">'''''Tuckerscreator'''''</span>]]([[User talk:Tuckerscreator|<font color="#008000">stalk</font>]]) 00:52, 21 October 2010 (EDT)
:You receive 50 points for each mainspace edit you make. Any such edits under your name that's imported in the meantime will also count towards your point count (we're using a tool at the moment that automatically updates edit and point counts when new content is imported) - [[User:Nicmavr|<span style="color:DarkGoldenrod; font-weight:bold; font-family:Arial">Nìcmávr</span>]] <span style="color:DarkGoldenrod">(</span>[[User Talk:Nicmavr|<span style="color:DarkGoldenrod; font-weight:bold">Tálk</span>]]<span style="color:DarkGoldenrod">)</span> 09:33, 21 October 2010 (EDT)
So I know it's been like a month since the move, but right before the move I hit 3000 edits and the rank of Colonel. I've now only got less than 2400 edits and 120,000 pts. Obviously points and user levels are by no means my motivation for editing Halopedia, but it would be nice to get credit for the work I've done. Is there any way to get that fixed, or am I stuck?--[[User:Rusty-112|<span style="background:blue; font-family:Arial;font-size:12pt;color:white;">''' Rusty '''</span>]][[User talk:Rusty-112|<span style="background:blue; font-family:Arial;font-size:12pt;color:red;">''' - '''</span> 23:46, 16 November 2010 (EST)
:Wikia can take the blame for that one because the dump they provided wasn't complete. That said, we've (and still are) importing page revisions (so by extension, edits) that were not transferred, so your edits/points should go up in time. In reality, everyone lost some edits, so in contrast, we have more or less the same edits as before. Just carry on as normal, things will become stabilized as time goes by. - [[User:Nicmavr|<span style="color:DarkGoldenrod; font-weight:bold; font-family:Arial">Nìcmávr</span>]] <span style="color:DarkGoldenrod">(</span>[[User Talk:Nicmavr|<span style="color:DarkGoldenrod; font-weight:bold">Tálk</span>]]<span style="color:DarkGoldenrod">)</span> 08:51, 17 November 2010 (EST)

I'm not sure what you can do about it, but the message boards are rather slow. Someone will send me a message and I will get alerted about it an hour to two hours later. ===Erroneous Edit-Conflict===
Lately I seem to be edit-conflicting myself. I'll edit a page(usually a talk page) then when I hit save it tells me there was an edit conflict, however, I look and the only changes are my signature! It seems that my entire profile was reset, even though I logged in just fine using my account. It reset my points and rank to 1000 and Apprentice. The tabview feature, which would allow embedding a sub-page into an article by entering it between the <tabview> </tabview> tags, doesn't seem to be working here. ::TabView is an ugly Wikia hack, its dependencies are quite literally all over the place (which is very typical when it comes to Wikia code; they haven't heard [[mw:User:Brion VIBBER|Brion's]] "extensions should stay as self-contained as possible" mantra). So, please don't use TabView. Instead, you can use Dantman's JS tab system, which I've just added. To make tabs, use code like this:
<pre><nowiki>
<div class="tabcontainer"> <!-- begin tabs -->
<div class="tabbox"> <!-- begin first tab -->
<div class="tab">Tab #1</div>
Contents of the first tab will go here.

===Link problem in Template:Navbox===
I could've posted this at the template's talk page, but since the problem may be a result of the transition, I thought this was as good place as any. In all list templates using [[:Template:Navbox]], the "view this template" or "v" link doesn't include "Template:" in the link like it should, resulting in broken links. For example, in Template:Sangheili, the "v" links to [[Sangheili]] instead of the template. --[[User:Jugus|<font color="MidnightBlue"><b>Jugus</b></font>]] <small>([[User talk:Jugus|<font color="Gray">Talk</font>]] | [[Special:Contributions/Jugus|<font color="Gray">Contribs</font>]])</small> 03:25, 2 November 2010 (EDT)

===Couple of issues with the new skin===
*As [[User:Odysseas-spartan-53|Odysseus]] pointed out to me, the Era icons are not showing up with the new skin.
*Not really a bug, but more of an improvement suggestion: Would it be possible to make the edges of the new skin rounded as we've done in Monobook? And possibly give the tabs (Edit, Discussion, More Actions, etc) some sort of transparency so that they don't just pop up in front of the mountain theme? I'm also kinda interested in doing the same for Vector (I know that fewer people use it, but as a secondary concern, it could do with some cleanup).
P.S. Note the top-right corner when using the Halopedia skin, that green patch area; might want to make that transparent too.
Regards,
- [[User:Nicmavr|<span style="color:DarkGoldenrod; font-weight:bold; font-family:Arial">Nìcmávr</span>]] <span style="color:DarkGoldenrod">(</span>[[User Talk:Nicmavr|<span style="color:DarkGoldenrod; font-weight:bold">Tálk</span>]]<span style="color:DarkGoldenrod">)</span> 08:53, 5 November 2010 (EDT)
:Era icons are now showing up, you may need to purge your cache to see them.
:As for the rounded corners, that's just CSS (for non-IE-browsers; you need either images or curvyCorners.js for IE).
:Same for transparency idea; maybe a gradient of some sort would look nice?
:The top-right corner has that green patch because it was originally wider, extending to the left side of the page and there was a third tab ("more wikis"). You can try disabling the background property in Firebug for the #wiki-login element and see what it looks like &mdash; as you can see, it the profile/log out (for registered users) or log in/sign up (for anonymous users) tabs have a background, they're not transparent. They need a transparent background first and then we can remove the background for the #wiki-login element. --[[User talk:Jack Phoenix|Jack Phoenix]] 10:47, 5 November 2010 (EDT)
===White text for Featured Article, most likely for others===
I just logged in today and noticed above today's Featured Article there was supposedly no text. I highlighted anything above the Article to make sure, but there really ''was'' text. [http://img829.imageshack.us/img829/3220/hwbug.jpg Here's] a link to a picture relating to this subject, some of the text is highlighted to clarify that there is indeed white text.
I would also like to suggest that a "Campaign" link in the Gameplay section of the Nagivation should be added. I do appreciate the presence of the Walkthroughs, but adding a "Campaign" link would be more convenient to those who would like to check out the Campaign levels of Halo directly, without having to type moderately long words in the Search bar. <b>[[User:Tuaha|<span style="color:orange;">T</span><span style="color:blue;">u''a''h</span><span style="color:orange;">A</span>]]</b> 08:59, 10 November 2010 (EST)
:Regarding the Featured Article box and those affected; not a technical bug, simply that the background image in the template didn't load up properly. Every now and then, it happens. Simply refresh the page or purge your cache.

Welcome user tag

On the <welcomeuser> tag on the front page whenever I log on it shows up and says that I have a gift request for "-1 gifts". - S.B.44 [Talk] 01:30, 18 October 2010 (EDT)

Okay, that is weird. I'll need to dig into it — please remind me on IRC about this so that I don't forget. --Jack Phoenix 06:40, 18 October 2010 (EDT)
Same issue for me now. I received a gift, then sent a gift, and now I have -1 gifts and can't get rid of the message. --Steve (talk) firefox_27x15.png 18:17, 18 October 2010 (EDT)
Steve fixed this particular issue (see Halopedia:Developer log#October 18, 2010), I committed his fix (improved it a bit to add checking for user messages and awards too) to upstream in r75010 and applied r75010 to Halopedia today. --Jack Phoenix 06:00, 19 October 2010 (EDT)

User page

Uh, for some reason my user page is only saying 1 edit, when I had at least a thousand before the swap. Is this normal at first, or is something wrong with it? Blade Bane 03:02, 18 October 2010 (EDT)Blade bane

Captain Blade bane, I'm seeing "Edits 831" on your userpage as of now. --Jack Phoenix 06:40, 18 October 2010 (EDT)
Odd, must just be a display thing then. However, my halopedia mainspace edits was 1035 according to special:editcount, but over here it only has it as 694. Shouldn't my overall be higher? (Don't mean to be sounding like an edit whore, just curious is all). Blade Bane 06:47, 18 October 2010 (EDT)Blade bane
Yes, we're looking into what might be causing this and seeing how we can resolve this issue. --Jack Phoenix 08:31, 18 October 2010 (EDT)
There's a few missing revisions from some of the articles. We're waiting for an updated wikia dump so we can have those imported soon. Nicmavr 08:33, 18 October 2010 (EDT)
Yeah, Jack, the full MediaWiki dump wasn't actually complete. Some pages only have one revision from an older dump, which is why edit counts are down. And when a new user logs in from Wikia, aka "registers" here, Special:UpdateEditCounts needs to be run or they'll only have one edit. --Steve (talk) firefox_27x15.png 11:28, 18 October 2010 (EDT)
Could something be done to make the edit counts update automatically? I don't mind having to use that tool every now and then, but an automated process could simplify things a bit. Nicmavr 11:50, 18 October 2010 (EDT)
Sounds like epic hack time...maybe a hook in MediaWikiAuth.php and a hooked function or just plain copypasta from SpecialUpdateEditCounts.php to MediaWikiAuth.php. Either way, the database queries need to be performed in MediaWikiAuth::initUser, probably after updating the user's info in the database (it needs to be done before the extension tells Snoopy to log out from the remote wiki). Doable, yes, but also a bit complicated. --Jack Phoenix 06:18, 19 October 2010 (EDT)

Move Article

Apparently, that function is denied to a rollback user. I tried to move Team beta to Beta Red, and it denied me permission to perform the function. -- Specops306 Autocrat Qur'a 'Morhek 04:16, 18 October 2010 (EDT)

You need to be autoconfirmed (in the autoconfirmed implicit group) to be allowed to move pages. We have altered $wgAutoConfirmAge and $wgAutoConfirmCount from the software defaults; I'm sure that you'll pass $wgAutoConfirmCount, but maybe you don't pass $wgAutoConfirmAge — we all know that you've been around for a long time, but maybe MediaWiki thinks that your account is "new", because technically speaking, it was created when you first logged in with your Wikia credentials. --Jack Phoenix 06:40, 18 October 2010 (EDT)
Do we know what the edit limit is? -- SFH 21:14, 21 October 2010 (EDT)
The edit requirement is quite low. The account age is what's limiting everybody right now, and in a few days everyone will be autoconfirmed. --Steve (talk) firefox_27x15.png 21:40, 21 October 2010 (EDT)

Youtube Videos

I'm not sure if it was like this before the move or not, because I just recently joined, but I found that the Youtube videos on the Halo 3 cutscene page weren't working I assume that they won't be working on other pages, but haven't looked into it yet. -- Andrew996 18:02, 18 October 2010 (EDT)

It seems this is the case in with a lot of images. Any idea why and how to solve? - Nìcmávr (Tálk) 05:24, 23 October 2010 (EDT)
Galleries in standard MediaWiki require the File: prefix, Wikia hacked their MW not to require this. The solution is to find the pages that use the gallery tag and change 'em. There's no simple solution to this. --Jack Phoenix 08:07, 23 October 2010 (EDT)

This isn't really a bug but more of a question

I follow A LOT of pages on wikia. So I was wondering if there was a way to transfer my watched pages from Wikia to Halopedia?!?!?!Vegerot (talk) 18:08, 19 October 2010 (EDT)?!!!!!

I don't think it works that way. You would need to add them manually back to your watchlist.
I think this can be removed by tomorrow. Not really helpful if it's not a bug. :P - 5əb'7aŋk(7alk) 18:33, 19 October 2010 (EDT)
You could just select the "Edit raw watchlist" option at the other wiki and copy-paste the full list here. That's what I did, anyway. --Jugus (Talk | Contribs) 18:38, 19 October 2010 (EDT)

Edit Count

Similar to the above problem, my received points and edit count seems to widely vary. I had just become a Gunnery Sergeant back on the OLD Halopedia, the move cut me back to Sergeant by about 200 points, but that's understandable because the 2 week gap. But yesterday, I had 14,500 points listed, now it lists me as Sergeant with only 7,500 points. I check and all my contributions are still there, but maybe the amount of points given per edit is being reduced, but even then I should still be JUST about at Gunnery Sergeant, not lower. Anyone else? Tuckerscreator(stalk) 18:56, 20 October 2010 (EDT)

The reason for the recent drop is because we just changed the setting to only count main namespace edits instead of all edits. Not all pages have their full histories, which I am slowly importing, so the edit counts will continue to gradually go up. --Steve (talk) firefox_27x15.png 19:07, 20 October 2010 (EDT)

Ah. Does it also change the amount of points received? Since just yesterday I made several additions that were numbering well into the thousands, now a similar sized edit still gives only 50. That also part of it? Tuckerscreator(stalk) 00:52, 21 October 2010 (EDT)

You receive 50 points for each mainspace edit you make. Any such edits under your name that's imported in the meantime will also count towards your point count (we're using a tool at the moment that automatically updates edit and point counts when new content is imported) - Nìcmávr (Tálk) 09:33, 21 October 2010 (EDT)

Is there any way to get that fixed, or am I stuck?-- Rusty [[User talk:Rusty-112| - 23:46, 16 November 2010 (EST)

Wikia can take the blame for that one because the dump they provided wasn't complete. That said, we've (and still are) importing page revisions (so by extension, edits) that were not transferred, so your edits/points should go up in time. In reality, everyone lost some edits, so in contrast, we have more or less the same edits as before. Just carry on as normal, things will become stabilized as time goes by. - Nìcmávr (Tálk) 08:51, 17 November 2010 (EST)

Point glitch?

Logged-out users see cached pages, and the cache had not updated since we changed the points system to only count main namespace edits. It's good now. --Steve (talk) firefox_27x15.png 21:34, 21 October 2010 (EDT)

I'm not 100% sure about this but I think I remember being a Sargent. My wikia-halopedia page says I've done 98 edits and 98x50(edits)+1000(Signing Up)+100(First Avatar) = 6000 But right now I have 4,150, however I'm not sure about this. "Mike" 15:19, 14 November 2010 (EST)

Boards

I'm not sure what you can do about it, but the message boards are rather slow. Someone will send me a message and I will get alerted about it an hour to two hours later. The messages are around, they just don't show up where you would normally look. pestilence Phil, pestilence! 16:30, 24 October 2010 (EDT)

Yeah, that. It's not showing up for me, though. Weird. --wwwwolf (barks/growls) 13:17, 27 October 2010 (EDT)
OK, I found out the reason: I had the h.w.c's search installed, and apparently, Firefox will not show the add link if a search engine with that exact name already exists. So I guess it's a Firefox bug, not really MediaWiki/Halopedia's bug. --wwwwolf (barks/growls) 13:22, 27 October 2010 (EDT)

Erroneous Edit-Conflict

Lately I seem to be edit-conflicting myself. I'll edit a page(usually a talk page) then when I hit save it tells me there was an edit conflict, however, I look and the only changes are my signature! Somehow the wiki seems to be "edit-conflicting myself" and I don't get why. Anyone get how that works? Tuckerscreator(stalk) 11:20, 28 October 2010 (EDT)

I'm gonna assume there's a latency delay (lag) in your connection, causing your browser to edit-conflict itself. Are you using Internet Explorer? This issue is very common in IE browsers apparently.- 5əb'7aŋk(7alk) 14:08, 28 October 2010 (EDT)
Yep. Could try using Safari, but... *shrugs* Tuckerscreator(stalk) 19:21, 28 October 2010 (EDT)

It seems that my entire profile was reset, even though I logged in just fine using my account. It reset my points and rank to 1000 and Apprentice. Tabview

The tabview feature, which would allow embedding a sub-page into an article by entering it between the <tabview> </tabview> tags, doesn't seem to be working here. For an example, this is how it shows up here while this is how it's supposed to work.--Jugus (Talk | Contribs) 10:40, 1 November 2010 (EDT)

Copying it straight from Wikia--it has some dependencies we don't have. Maybe Jack can make it work. --Steve (talk) firefox_27x15.png 11:17, 1 November 2010 (EDT)
TabView is an ugly Wikia hack, its dependencies are quite literally all over the place (which is very typical when it comes to Wikia code; they haven't heard Brion's "extensions should stay as self-contained as possible" mantra). So, please don't use TabView. Instead, you can use Dantman's JS tab system, which I've just added. To make tabs, use code like this:
<div class="tabcontainer"> <!-- begin tabs -->
<div class="tabbox"> <!-- begin first tab -->
<div class="tab">Tab #1</div>
Contents of the first tab will go here.
</div> <!-- end first tab -->
<div class="tabbox"> <!-- begin second tab -->
<div class="tab">Tab #2</div>
Contents of the second tab will go here.
</div> <!-- end second tab -->
<div class="tabbox"> <!-- begin third tab -->
<div class="tab">Tab #3</div>
Contents of the third tab will go here.
</div> <!-- end third tab -->
<div class="tabbox"> <!-- begin fourth tab -->
<div class="tab">Tab #4</div>
Contents of the fourth tab will go here.
</div> <!-- end fourth tab -->
<div class="tabbox"> <!-- begin fifth tab -->
<div class="tab">Tab #5</div>
Contents of the fifth tab will go here.
</div> <!-- end fifth tab -->
</div> <!-- end tabs -->
--Jack Phoenix 12:20, 1 November 2010 (EDT)
Updated and replaced tabview with Dantman's Tab System. I'm going to assume it takes quite a while for the css and js to load up, as the current tag doesn't seem to load up.- 5əb'7aŋk(7alk) 12:40, 1 November 2010 (EDT)
There was a bug in the code (a JavaScript variable called is_khtml used to exist in wikibits.js file pre-1.16; the tab system code hadn't been tested with 1.16 before and it used is_khtml; obviously you cannot use variables that haven't been declared). I've fixed it. --Jack Phoenix 14:08, 1 November 2010 (EDT)

Link problem in Template:Navbox

I could've posted this at the template's talk page, but since the problem may be a result of the transition, I thought this was as good place as any. In all list templates using Template:Navbox, the "view this template" or "v" link doesn't include "Template:" in the link like it should, resulting in broken links. For example, in Template:Sangheili, the "v" links to Sangheili instead of the template. --Jugus (Talk | Contribs) 03:25, 2 November 2010 (EDT)

Should be fixed. --Steve (talk) firefox_27x15.png 11:22, 2 November 2010 (EDT)

Couple of issues with the new skin

  • As Odysseus pointed out to me, the Era icons are not showing up with the new skin.
  • Not really a bug, but more of an improvement suggestion: Would it be possible to make the edges of the new skin rounded as we've done in Monobook? And possibly give the tabs (Edit, Discussion, More Actions, etc) some sort of transparency so that they don't just pop up in front of the mountain theme? I'm also kinda interested in doing the same for Vector (I know that fewer people use it, but as a secondary concern, it could do with some cleanup).

P.S. Note the top-right corner when using the Halopedia skin, that green patch area; might want to make that transparent too.

Regards,

- Nìcmávr (Tálk) 08:53, 5 November 2010 (EDT)

Era icons are now showing up, you may need to purge your cache to see them.
As for the rounded corners, that's just CSS (for non-IE-browsers; you need either images or curvyCorners.js for IE).
Same for transparency idea; maybe a gradient of some sort would look nice?
The top-right corner has that green patch because it was originally wider, extending to the left side of the page and there was a third tab ("more wikis"). You can try disabling the background property in Firebug for the #wiki-login element and see what it looks like — as you can see, it the profile/log out (for registered users) or log in/sign up (for anonymous users) tabs have a background, they're not transparent. They need a transparent background first and then we can remove the background for the #wiki-login element. --Jack Phoenix 10:47, 5 November 2010 (EDT)

White text for Featured Article, most likely for others

I just logged in today and noticed above today's Featured Article there was supposedly no text. I highlighted anything above the Article to make sure, but there really was text. Here's a link to a picture relating to this subject, some of the text is highlighted to clarify that there is indeed white text.

TuahA 08:59, 10 November 2010 (EST)

Regarding the Featured Article box and those affected; not a technical bug, simply that the background image in the template didn't load up properly. Every now and then, it happens. Simply refresh the page or purge your cache.
As for Campaign added to the sidebar, wouldn't it be better to replace Walkthrough with Campaign? Just a suggestion to the administration team - 5əb'7aŋk(7alk) 10:17, 10 November 2010 (EST)
