* One February 22nd, 2525, the militia provided security for the thousands of Harvest's refugees at Utgard's maglev terminal. Staff Sergeants Johnson and Bryne eventually took a Warthog to assist a civilian convoy heading into the city, but they were too late, and managed only to save one. In the process, however, they helped destroy a Covenant Spirit dropship.

* On the 23rd, the militia split to perform two operations. The first, led by Johnson, was a volunteer operation to secure the spaceborne Tiara platform to ensure civilians evacuating in cargo freighters would safely leave the planet. The operation was sucessful at the cost of 7 recruits' lives. During the same time period on the ground, Bryne and 2nd platoon, along with anyone from 1st platoon who didn't volunteer with Johnson, defended Mack's data center. Three Brute Choppers attacked, but they were all destroyed and three Marines were presumably KIA.

After doing as much as they could, the Colonial Militia of Harvest evacuated the planet along with civilians. At least two members of the militia eventually transferred to the UNSC Marine Corps.

Militiamen
United Nations Space Command
The Harvest militia was comprised of 72 recruits. About half of them were members of Harvest's police force and emergency services, but most of these men were 40-50 years old. The other half of the militia was generally comprised of young men who had worked on Harvest's farms.

The militia was divided into two platoons of 36 men each. These platoons were then divided into three squads of 12 men each, named Alpha, Bravo, and Charlie. Below is a list of the known men in the militia.

Trivia
*Colonial Militia units are actually run and organized by the UNSC Marine Corps.  It is probable that the UNSC Army also takes part in militia training.
*The local Colonial Militia may have fought on every world during the Human-Covenant War, supplementing UNSC Army and Marine Corps units during battle.

READY FOR ANYTHING

The Colonial Militia is a collection of defensive paramilitary forces trained and overseen by the United Nations Space Command - as an armed forces component - on Unified Earth Government colony worlds. They fall under Unified Ground Command authority.[1] They are tasked with safeguarding colonies when conventional UNSC forces are not present, and possibly to act as support and scout units. A colony's militia forces are trained by the UNSC under the Colonial Militia Training program.[2]

Role[edit]

Often trained by non-commissioned officers in the UNSC, the Colonial Militia is comprised of citizens trained to provide defense, and emergency services and to serve as a potential paramilitary force. Often, militia members would later join the UNSC as enlisted soldiers, such was the case with Wallace Jenkins.

Operational history[edit]

The Colonial Militia troops of the planet Harvest were among the first humans to make contact with the Covenant, following a secret operation in orbit above the planet. They were trained and commanded by Captain Ponder and Staff Sergeants Avery Johnson and Nolan Byrne. Despite their attempts to defend Harvest, the planet was ultimately glassed and nearly half of the militia's seventy-two members were killed.[2]

During the Battle for Earth, the Colonial Militia took part in the Battle of Mombasa with little success.[3] For the purposes of civilian morale, the New Mombasa Police Department's public service announcer broadcast propaganda touting largely-imaginary, exaggerated militia 'victories'.[4]

Despite the existence of the official UEG-backed Colonial Militia, unofficial and criminal local militias continued to operate in UEG territory into the Human-Covenant War, with the Reach militia eventually aiding UNSC forces during the Fall of Reach.[5]
