Needler

Although the pre-Covenant Sangheili did possess a rudimentary understanding of the destructive potential of weapons that utilize Subanese crystals, true mastery of this ammunition would be realized in the Covenant's Needler. The Needler's inner mechanisms break down the crystals and catalyzes the resulting shards, which become capable of tracking specific heat signatures of sighted targets. While the Needler is classified as a weapon for specialist troops, its potential to inflict gruesome damage with little marksmanship skill has made it a popular weapon among the Covenant's lower castes and its poorly-trained soldiers.
