The Riruku-pattern Void Maker is a small infantry-portable antimatter charge used by the Covenant.[1] It serves as the Covenant counterpart to the Type 14 Magnetic/Anti-Tank Mine employed by the UNSC.[2]
OverviewEdit
Design detailsEdit
The Riruku-pattern serves as a Covenant equivalent to satchel charges used by humanity.[1] It consists of a round, heavily armoured casing protecting an antimatter core - visually resembling a larger Anskum-pattern plasma grenade.[2] It is capable of being affixed to surfaces and remote-detonated[3], or planted on an automatic countdown timer.[2]
UsageEdit
The Riruku-pattern antimatter charge is equipped by specialist Covenant pioneer and storm lances to breach enemy fortifications and deploy onto hostile spacecraft during boarding actions.[1]
Operational historyEdit
A Covenant charge was employed by Zuka 'Zamamee's strike team during the Battle of Alpha Base in late 2552, used to free several captured Unggoy in UNSC custody.[3]
GameplayEdit
Halo: ReachEdit
The Covenant bomb only appears in select Invasion gametypes, in which the gametype is set so that the Elite players are on the offense and the objective is assault. In this mode, the Elites have to deliver a bomb to a predetermined site, in which the bomb serves as the Covenant equivalent to the UNSC Assault bomb. The bomb produces a massive plasma detonation capable of shattering UNSC blast doors.[2]
In the original release of Halo: Reach for the Xbox 360, the bomb can only be used by Sangheili on the map Breakpoint, with Sangheili assault objectives on other maps simply using the UNSC bomb model. This behaviour carried over into the Reach port for Halo: The Master Chief Collection until Series 6: Raven, which updated the maps Forge World and Tempest to also include the Covenant bomb variant for appropriate usage.[4]
