Out of Shadow is the seventh track (Disc 1 Track 7) included in Halo 3: Original Soundtrack, and plays during the Halo 3 campaign level Tsavo Highway. It is composed of Out of Shadow (0:00-2:50) and Into Light (2:50-4:37).
Overview[edit]
Out of Shadow[edit]
Out of Shadow (2:50) begins with a slow choir and string melody, which is then joined by a percussion rhythm. The choir and double bass take on the melody of the third section of Broken Gates (from Mombasa Suite in Halo 2: Original Soundtrack). Digital notes enter, slowly building up in a faster rhythm to match percussion of Broken Gates. Electric guitar and percussion later join in, playing in a faster tempo. The piece ends with the percussion as the final line. The piece plays in the first chapter of the level, with the name alluding to John-117 leading Marines out of the darkened caves under Crow's Nest. The slow choir and string melody section plays in the initial cave section, while the electric guitar and percussion play in the savanna outside Crow's Nest. The digital notes and bass line reprised in No Time for Sightseeing (from the later track Farthest Outpost).
Into Light[edit]
Into Light (1:47) transitions into strings. The main melody enters in an electrical/synth sound (similar to those heard in Infiltrate and We're Done Here) with a quick tempo percussion beat. The synth notes varies in different pitches until the end, where vocals return to end the piece. The piece plays when John-117 reaches where Marcus Stacker's convoy was attacked by the Covenant.
