The M3063 Automated Heavy Machine Gun/Self-Tracking (M3063 AHMG/ST), colloquially referred to as the deployable turret or autoturret, is an automated turret utilised by the United Nations Space Command as an anti-personnel sentry weapon.[1][2]
Overview[edit]
Design details[edit]
Mounted on a heavy tetrapod, the weapon emits a visible laser to aid in targeting. It features a heavy machine gun that fires at a moderate rate, and an energy weapon that fires an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) shot similar to the overcharge function of the Covenant's Type-25 plasma pistol.[3]
As with most human automated defences, M3063s can be deployed with multiple units networked together to act as a single machine. In these scenarios, the turrets are generally deployed with overlapping fields of fire with which they can be used to their best effect. Defensive networks like this generally rely on an optical or laser sensor and an IFF interrogator for target acquisition, which can then be shared across the network to best facilitate effective firing.[2]
Operational history[edit]
This autoturret was frequently used in War Games training sessions by SPARTAN-IVs aboard the UNSC Infinity. It was an effective way to defend captured bases and secure objectives, especially in Dominion matches.[4]
When the Infinity returned to the Forerunner shield world Requiem in 2558, various UNSC bases and outposts were established on the inner surface of the planet. Several such autoturrets were used to defend these locations, including Galileo Base,[5] Two Giants,[6] and Magma Base.[7]
Trivia[edit]
- It is possible to place these on a map outside of Dominion, but it is necessary to remove the Dominion gametype label from the object first.
- If one places and activates one of these turrets in Forge, and then deletes the base, the actual turret itself will remain.
