Covenant Asylum Seekers

I've been wondering this too, I wasn't sure if he was joking or not. I most certainly hope that this means peace negotiations were still going on, it's been nagging at me for a while now. --TentacleTornado 14:52, 16 December 2012 (EST)

Not at all. In this context, "Covenant" refers to any and all former member and client species of the defunct empire. It doesn't mean Thel 'Vadam has pursued a lasting peace with Earth and her colonies, simply that these refugees would take their chances with a former enemy rather than the harsh wilds of remnant-occupied space. Same thing happens after a lot of major conflicts here in real life. Grizzlei ♥ ツ

It's comparable to a Nazi seeking safety in Israel immediately after World War Two. Then again it may be a subtle reference to Josef Mengele fleeing to Brazil. User:Tex the Spartan/Sig

We did lose a few billion people along with some major cities because of the Covenant, and let's not even get started about how many colonies got glassed. I don't think the citizens of Earth would be terribly welcoming. 1-1 Marines

Still, why is the UNSC allowing refugees from the Covenant on Earth? Thel's a good guy but I don't think we'd exactly say, "Make yourselves at home!" to him and Half-Jaw considering security issues and that we already got enough problems with our OWN COLONIAL REFUGEES. Tex the Spartan

If you think about it strategically, it provides an intimate knowledge of Covenant life, which can in itself provide a battlefield advantage. It can also serve as a way of creating intelligence sources among the former Covenant - familiarisation would facilitate cooperation. At least one Elite was on Earth working as a "terrorist", so it goes that there were more - a useful resource to a side working to destabilise Sanghelios. And let's not forget that large portions of the Earth were depopulated during the Covenant occupation - the refugee settlement may exist isolated from the main population, out of the way and "contained".

Actually, it's much more analogous to former German soldiers moving away from Germany to live in places like Britain or the US. Yeah, I guess you're right. It might be like District 9 except none of the Covenant have been seen enjoying cat food-so far. The security issues must be a nightmare though, imagine how many people would want the Covenant dead. How many humans remember a time of peace?
