A Missile Silo is an underground vertical cylindrical container built for housing and launching missiles such as the 11-B1 ICBM, the launch silos of which populate the landscape on the Halo 3 map Standoff.[1] These silos are protected by large "blast doors" on top and are usually connected, either physically or electrically, to a missile launch control center.
Trivia
- The missile silo was originally supposed to be a building that houses a missile launch bay in the game Halo Wars. According to the Halo Wars preview, most UNSC bases have at least one, sometimes more. It is likely that the missile was intended to be a "superweapon" for the UNSC, as "superweapons" are found in many RTS games. However, it was cut from the final game.
