Background

2553 was the very last year in the Human-Covenant War[1].

With the Prophet of Truth dead, the Halos deactivated, and the Flood entirely destroyed, the Battle of the Ark brought about the end of the Human-Covenant War in 2552 the previous year, formalised in 2553.
